I received this information for interpreting scores.

NB Score Percent Cumulative Percent
99 0.7 100.0
96-98 2.2 99.3
93-95 5.9 97.1
90-92 12.1 91.2
87-89 18.5 79.1
84-86 21.2 60.6

Then it says, “For example 21.2 percent of the reference groups is expected to score in the 84-86 range for NBDE part I score on a given exam. The percentage of the reference group that would be expected to score up to and including this range is 60.6.”

So what does this mean? Do 8.8% of test takers score above a 90 (i.e. cumulative percent column 100.0-91.2 = 8.8%) or do 20.9% of test takers score above 90 (i.e. percent column 0.7 + 2.2 + 5.9 + 12.1 = 20.9%)?

I’m not good with statistics, help me out.

no, to find out how many people scored 90 or over, you have to add 12.1+5.9+2.2+0.7= 20%. The 91.2% just means that 91.2% scored 92 or below and 8.8% scored >92
