Here is my situation, I was late in applying but I recently got into BU, they are asking for a $3,000 deposit by Mar 11. I already got the extension for 15 days. I do not want to attend there mainly due to the high cost. I applied to NOVA, Temple, U of Michigan and have not heard back from them, I applied after my BU interview (the middle of January). I called them each and they are still waiting for AADSAS app. My stats are as follows, GPA 3.11 DAT 21/18. SCI GPA 3.07. Should I play safe and send the deposit in, or is it likely that I will get into any of these other schools. I have had volunteer and shadowing experience. I know schools are starting to fill up and that is why I am leaning towards sending in the deposit, $3K is not alot in the long run.

Thanks

Hey Vikas..play it safe and send it in..it is non-ref but in the end its worth it....like you said, in the long run, its a mere drop in the bucket... :)

I would send it in, just ot be on safer side, as u said, the time is flying by, and u never know whats gonna happen in future, so ...

Vikas,

Tough to be in your shoes! With those stats, I'm sure you'll earn interview invites, but they may be for the waitlist (or maybe not)! But I'm 100% sure that you'll get more invites from either U of M, Nova, and/or Temple (mostly likely be for the waitlist though)!

$3000.00, WOW!! Might as well send it in. You know, in this late of the game, I would just send in my BU deposite and secure the seat and go there next year! Why bother looking at other schools when they all are taking their sweet old time looking at applications that are already in their possession as classes are being filled.

For example:

Temple, just talk to the admissions personal two days ago to check up on my application status and at the same time I inquired about the class number status. Exact words, "We currently have over 90 deposites!" If you do the math, 125 seats minus 90 deposites = ~35 seats may be available. You might say, well, someone will drop out on the deposite list once their number one school choice sends them an acceptance, that's correct, but at the same time, there are probably still a good over 50 applications minimally being reviewed currently (I'm guessing)! With your submission time frame with AADSAS, Temple may not even get your AADSAS for another week or so!

Nova, when I was told that I was invited for my interview via phone last week, originally I was told that the interviews were already scheduled into mid-April and that would be the soonest! Granted someone may drop their earlier interview dates from here and there, but it's not guaranteed. I was fortunate enough to snag an earlier date, but who knows if you will be as lucky even when you do get invited for an interview! If Nova does not have your complete application now, I'm afraid that you may not hear positively from them until late March or even into April! By then, what do you think the class of 95 students filled status will be like? SU-Ann, the admissions coordinator tells me all the time that they are "swamped"!! I got a feeling that Nova is a little slow on things!!

Man, I would just go to BU and be happy! Paid that $3000 and know that I won't forfeit it! BU is a good school! Not to be pessimistic here, but it's a timing game!! This is all my $0.54!!

I do sympathize!

Thanks for all the input! This forum has been great in my journey to dental school. I would like to specially thank Yah-ZZZ for all his great posts in this forum. I have decided to give BU the deposit! Is anyone else going to BU?

Thanks Again
Vikas

Vikas,

Thanks for your kind words! I just want all of us to suceed (although all of you will be my competition down the road <img border="0" alt="[Laughy]" title="" src="graemlins/laughy.gif" /> )!! As an applicant who is determined for his dental education, I know how difficult and long this "getting in" road can be! With the discovery of this forum, I just want to share every success experience that I had to help you guys out! I must say, I must've typed at least 5 GAZILLION words to fit into 20 plus 30-page dissertations on this forum since I joined!

Vikas,

Hey, do not let this discourage you. If I were you I would call up the schools that you mentioned and inform them of your situation. Call up the school that you really want to go to and tell them that you would like to know if there is a possible interview for you in the near future. If they say yes possibly explain to them your situation and they will understand. Tell them that they are your first choice and you really want to go there. Inform them that you do not want to waste the money if you have a future at your top school. I hope this helps!

Vikas,

UofM01, has a point, you can always call those dental schools you've mentioned earlier and bargain with them for an interview, but personally, I wouldn't count on them boosting you up in the line if they don't even have your application yet!! I would just go to BU and be very happy!! Remember, we're talking BU here, we're definitely not settling (in my opinion)!!! Besides, save those potential travelling interview expenses for celebrational purposes!!!

But UofM01 does have a point, you have many options, but which makes the most sense? Only you know!

Thanks for the input again, maybe I will call Nova and explain my situation to them. I will wait till Monday since on Tuesday [2/19/02] I recieved my AADSAS correction stuff, so I assume the schools also recieved my app. Give 3-4 days to process everything and when I call on Monday hopefully they will let me schedule an interview earlier, I know Nova has a secondary app and that might create some problems. Worth a shot at the least. Thanks Again. Even if they cannot confirm anything, I would just like to be interviewed and be given a fair shot at admission. Thanks Again for all the thoughtful responses.
