Hi, everyone:

I am going for an interview this October. I am just wondering if I have to wear a formal suit with a tie for the interview?

Does a suit give the interviewers a formal look?

Thanks very much.

I'd go with the completely traditional look: suit and tie. You know. It doesn't have to be boring navy blue; make it your own, but stay within the lines of formal taste.

Formal, classic attire. Suit, nice dress shirt (I like textured ones, adds something but still classic), and a nice tie. A nice tie can get expensive but you can REALLY tell the difference in how they look. Dress shoes (not tuxedo shoes or anything, but shiny and, again, mine have a bit of texture in the mid-region). Nice belt. Try to stick with charcoal, gray, or navy for the suit. Shirt the classics are white and blue but you obviously dont have to strictly adhere to this. Ties can be solid or striped as long as they bring together the colors.

This is the basic, for myself I went with a charcoal two button, a white shirt and a blue shirt, and two ties I really liked. I think I typed too much, so to answer your original question I would def. wear a suit and tie. If money is an issue (I have no clue if it is) you can get a really nice suit for a couple hundred at mens wearhouse. Good deal on shoes, shirts, and ties too.

Absolutely, a suit and tie are a must. Check out Men's Wearhouse, S&K, or Jos. A. Bank for some deals on a suit.

Thanks so much for all your quick replies. Now I have to stick to the classic black suit and white skirt route.

Good luck to you all.

I think black is a bad way to go. It's not very versatile outside of premed land, navy, although boring is better, and gray is better.

Honestly?

I would go with the traditional banana hammock, cuffs, and bowtie.

Can't get any classier than that.

For those having to take a plane ride to get to interviews....how are you carrying your suits? Just pack the slacks and take the jacket with you to your seat? How do you get past wrinkling the suit?

Barring that, a choker would add that 'professional, yet available' edge you might be going for.

I go with a garment bag. If you need one and don't have money, a cheap nylon one can be well... cheap.

Something professional, like a lawyer

A dark suit charcoal or dark brown or navy, black is becoming less conservative. White cream or LIGHT blue shirt with a solid silk tie.

My vote is still for the banana hammock, cuffs, and bowtie.

Shock and awe, baby.

+1

you can get one at target or at ebags for about $30. they should also have compartments for other clothes and toiletries. i'm planning on checking mine in due to the restrictions on liquids.

If you have a standard roller carry-on you can just fold the jacket in half with all your shirts etc in the middle like a taco... it won't wrinkle because its not being creased in a tight fold. (I've done it for both interviews so far with no problems at all).

Thanks a lot for your responses. I think I will go with a garment bag.

I got this garmet bag at target that folds into thirds and is still small enough to carry on. So far its worked pretty well and kept my suit from getting wrinkled on the plane. Kinda pricey (~$90 i think) but i figure it'll be useful later.
