Also, does it matter which company we use to consolidate? Some private companies are offering a 1.25% rebate to do it now... is this a scam of some kind?
That rate will likely increase, but it will be reported soon with plenty of time to consolidate. The rate change is effective July 1, so as long as you start the process by June 30 you can lock in the lower rate (assuming it goes up). Or are you talking about long term projections?
We're anticipating a small increase, like .25%, but it will be announced on May 30. As long as you sign an application before 6/30 you will get the current interest rate.
