I just got accepted to Nova and was wondering what I need to do in regards to studying before the first day of class (I know that I am a bit ahead of myself but I just wanted to start trying to prepare). So, over the next summer what should I be doing?? I figured I needed to for sure get all the text books and start reading them all. I was thinking about working in a dental office to get some more hands on experience. Any other advice??

Thank you very much in advance for all comments, Andy

for the love of god enjoy your summer!

they give you your textbooks on your computer during orientation. you'll get practice with hand skills all first semester, and get to start putting your hands in peoples mouths by second semester.

i had a VERY relaxing 7 months before school, and the 7 months since have been the most stressful of my life. seriously.

see you in the fall!

Do yourself a favor and buy as few textbooks as you can. Certain profs will tell you that you "absolutely must have" such and such. BS. You'll probably get more info in the powerpoints they hand out than you'd be capable of memorizing anyways.

One of my profs authored a text and told us all a million times that we would ABSOLUTELY NEED this book to pass the class. Why? So he could collect a bit more in royalties perhaps? I specifically went out of my way not to buy the text just so the douche didn't get a dime out of me. Got an "A" on the midterm a couple weeks ago.

Save your money. That $150 textbook with interest four years from now will amount to way more than what it's worth.

Thank you both for the advice/help. I will definatly be taking this into account!!

Thanks again, Andy

Make sure you have all your vaccinations, as well as a TB test and all required titers. You will not be allowed to do jack squat at school if you do not. Oh and make sure the DOCTOR signs off on it, not any other staff. If you just do that one thing, your summer will be a huge success. Nearly half my class did not have all the stuff done and had to be patients for the hands on stuff.
