i remember reading on some website a while back about preparing for med school. there were suggestions of books to read and such, but i can't seem to find that website now. does anybody (esp current med school students) have any ideas? this is my summer right after graduation. im kinda bored sitting around, so i figured i can be brushing up on somethin useful that might make my life easier later this year???

I never thought I'd be moving something OUT of the financial aid forum, but there's always a first for everything....

Moving to allo because I'm assuming you aren't asking about money.

Seriously, take a gross anatomy course, preferably with a dissection component. Lots of people will tell you to take it easy, but a few people in my class did the anatomy thing the summer before they started and absolutely cruised through course, and essentially first year, laughing all the way at us poor saps who did nothing but bum around before we started med school.

If I could do it all over again, that's just what I'd do. Yes sir.

You cannot be serious camjakb! Taking a gross anatomy class the summer before MS1 is by far the craziest plan I have heard of on here. I guess we all have a different agenda.

Well, if you care to hear about my plans. I was just looking at a few vacation packages to the caribbean when I switch over to sdn and saw your thread. I am going to the caribbean because I love the outdoors, I admire nature, I need a break from city life, and nothing relaxes me more than a hiking trip followed by a nice swim in the ocean. My point is that you should do whatever you enjoy the most. No one can really tell you what that "thing" should be.

Good luck

Don't listen to what those dorks that are blowing one of thier last worry-FREE summers on studying for a class that they will be taking in the fall. Enjoy yourself and take an awesome trip. I got a work visa and worked in London last summer. It was the best time of my life. I got an awesome job at a sushi bar in one of Londons yuppy districts. I met a bunch of awesome people and got to take trips all over europe every 2 weeks. True, anatomy is a tough class for people that haven't taken it B4. But trust me you'll really regret blowing a summer on studying. You only have this summer and the summer after your M1 year off. After that, its school year round. Then residency. Then a real job. You won't ever have another 3 months off with nothing to worry about until you retire. I had so much fun that I'm going back this year after our comp exams next week. So max, relax, and sit on your ass.
PS if anyone else is interested in working abroad check out www.bunac.org. It's also an exellent way to set yourself apart from all those other boring medical students out there.
