I saw a post on here saying to eat what u regulary eat.... by my eating habit is irregular and i wanted to start eating the same thing over and over.... so what do u guys suggest for breakfast and lunch??

something with protein that will fill your stomach (so you're not distracted by being hngry) like eggs but not something that will make you sluggish, and something with sugar to give you energy....probably also coffee if you generally drink that. for lunch maybe a sandwich and a coke or something, and also something with sugar, like a candy bar. i really have no idea but that's what i'm doing base don things i've heard.

Uh... this may be a little bit of overkill. I'd just make sure to eat something, but not so much as to make you sleepy. I went to International House of Pancakes with my friend.

The company you go with is more important than the meal. He and I, we pumped each other up. That, and the coffee helped, too.

i had a bowl of cereal for breakfast. including lunch, i ate two more more powerbars the rest of the day. other than water, i think that was all i had. (i was taking adderall at the time though, so that suppressed my hunger a little bit.)

Hey, I had a question about taking adderall, although it vastly improves concentration, such as on details, which I think would help on minutia in science passages, etc., I have heard that it impairs your reasoning ability, so that on something like the Verbal Reasoning section it would impair your ability to draw global ideas, etc.

did you see such a correlation while on adderall?

thanks

i mean, i guess my verbal scores were lower than my science scores, but i dont know if that has to do with the drug or just the fact that i am not super on VR. so, i dont have any meaningful evidence to confirm what youre saying about the reasoning ability... however, i think reasoning ability would probably be useful for the whole test.

i never heard of it impairing reasoning ability...what study was that from?

Why were you taking adderall?

AHHH! Don't drift off topic  . Anyways I was thinking about eating some cereal, a piece of toast and like an apple... or what about a banana? Also for lunch I was going to eat like a peanut butter and jelly sandwhich with like something with meat... any suggestions?

Every morning I have a bowl of oatmeal. I did the same for the August exam. And then during the break b/w PS & VR, I had a candy bar. And for lunch...a sandwich.

i'm thinking either oatmeal or a fruit smoothie with protein powder for breakfast because both of those keep me full for a few hours, something no cereals except kashi golean manage to do. for lunch, i'll probably go for pb&j or maybe pb & honey (comfort food from when i was a kid) with a banana. i'm also going to bring two luna bars and a spare banana for if i get hungry during the breaks.

I would avoid eating refined sugar because although it does give you a boost initially, it will cause a blood sugar crash shortly thereafter. Candy is good for a short exam in class, but not good for an all day endurance test like the MCAT. I ate whole grain cereal and egg whites for breakfast, meat and veges at lunch, fruit and powerbars at breaks. Also I would avoid too much caffine, b/c it too will wear off and leave you feeling tired in the afternoon, plus it kept me from havng to pee too much. This worked really well for me.

Cereal is really not ideal. It has a very high glycemic index, and your body will send a surge of sugar into your blood as you digest it. Plus, you'll get hungry again very soon.

Go with oatmeal. And not the junk loaded with sugar. I personally have a whey shake w/milk and oatmeal or (some of you are going to gag) oatmeal and a can of tuna for breakfast pretty much every morning. Since I started this routine, I find I have a lot more energy during the day and generally feel better.

I'm also a 2-3 cups of coffee per day guy, so that fits into the morning routine, too.

Eggs are good, too, but just know that if you're not used to eating them, they can cause a lot of gas.

two serving of "Tiger Penis"
It keeps you going all night/day LONG!

you're right, that is disgusting first thing in the morning.

I think i'll just stick to eggs..i've never had a problem with that nor heard it causes gas and some OJ and coffee, but i think i'll skip the usual 3+ cups. You probably should too.

I would think an energy or candy bar is ok for the energy boost as long as you keep having one during each break...no?

I saw a commercial for a new snickers candy/energy bar I think I'm gonna try for the breaks. 🙂

Peanut butter and honey sounds great for lunch!!! Thanks for giving me the idea lawgirl. Comfort food for sure.

I can't believe I'm telling you guys this, but the secret performance food is cottage cheese. Eat a cup of this before doing anything mentally challenging and you're set.

I would have a cup of dark coffee along with a bowl of cereal for breakfast. For lunch, try a cold turkey sandwich with a nice big drink.

Actually I was told to have what you usually have for breakfast. A banana for the extra boost of potassium. Don't drink too much, for the obvious reason. And of course, no turkey.

u know this is a really good post.. i hadn't even thought about food for that day or anything like that... how long of a break are we given for lunch... was it an hour.. or half an hour... and where does everyone go during that time... their car? the cafe? ???

Thanks for remiding me about cottage cheese...and the tuna in the morning, well, maybe I'll try it (not on oatmeal though

I used to eat mounds of cottage cheese. Ever try cottage cheese topped with fresh grapes or blueberries. mmm, can't wait till breakfast.

PS: I eat alot of yogurt, although I think the flavored yogurt may do more harm than good since it hass alot of refined sugar...

it's an hour break; wher epeople go depends wher eyour test center is. if it's near someplace to eat you can go out; otherwise bring lunch and there's probably a place to sit and eat nearby.

and futuredocDO what's wrong with turkey for breakfast? i wasn't going to eat it anyway, but what's wrong with it?

why is cottage cheese particularly good? Wow i gues si really don't know wha tfoods are best. someone please tell me the reasons why or why not to eat certain foods.

Turkey makes you sleepy.

Good call on the cottage cheese. It's just an all around good food, low fat, tons of protein.

and i always thought it was the big thanksgiving meal that made you sleepy, not the turkey itself

what else shouldn't i eat?

I agree with the temporary sugar high theory with regard to candy bars... and no, I don't plan on taking them during the early part of the test.... but I DO plan on eating one in that break between the writing sample and the PS section... doesn't matter if I crash once I'm done... I just want to get through it!

:spam: for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

No, really. How about peanut butter toast and a banana. For lunch, a sandwich (does ham have any sleepiness side effects too??), apple, granola bar, water. And of course, the Luna bar between sections in the afternoon.

only turkey does because it contains a lot of the amino acid, W.

Ya'll should know that one by now. =)

Yah, just make sure you're not lactate intolerance.

Turkey does make you sleepy because of the amino acid, tryptophan, that it contains. Tryptophan helps the body produce the B-vitamin niacin, which, in turn, helps the body produce serotonin, a chemical that acts as a calming agent in the brain and plays a role in sleep.
