How much of Orgo I is necessary to understand Orgo II?

I have taken Orgo I but it was 7 years ago. I have watched some basic videos and reviewed the general ideas of Orgo I but have completed only minimal problems so far. Do I need to have a deeper knowledge of these concepts to do well in Orgo II?

Thanks!

Just my opinion, but Orgo II is built on the concepts you learned in Orgo I. In Orgo I, you learn the fundamentals but in Orgo II you apply those fundamentals to more complex reactions. If you're a great student, you might be able to review on your own and catch-up - I wouldn't worry too much about actually working problems - nobody remembers that much from one semester to the next - it's the basic concepts that you need! 7 years is an awfully long time, however.

I just took Orgo 2 10+ years after Orgo 1 and got an A so it is possible. I will say that it took brute force studying of about 4 hours a day for the first few weeks in order to get up on speed on what was going on. I would suggest trying to get a syllabus from the Orgo 1 class at your school and then trying to work as many problems as possible (that's what I did). Orgo is all about doing problems IMO.

study up on electrophiles and nucleophiles... basically the class is all about the interaction between these two species. If you start to see this, it will all make sense.

Take them both.

Well that and pushing electrons. I mean so much of second semester is just resonance you need to be able to push electron pairs.(It's so much easier once you get that down.)
