Hey everyone,

We all on a same path to get into medical school or any medical career professions. As a nontrad, we all went different routes in getting there. So to my curiosity, I was wondering what was everyone's past or current career before attending medical school?

I bounced around quite a bit before arriving at this path, but the progression since graduation has been: research chemist --> English/chemistry teacher abroad --> backcountry guide/expedition manager --> bartender and barista --> middle manager at a Bay Area tech company --> unemployed med school application builder. It's fantastic to have a trajectory that finally feels right and sustainable.

Care to share any details of your interviews with respect to your past career? I bet them DOs loved talking to you. Looks like your in MUCOM, wish they'd give me an interview :/ Congrats!
i just expressed to people that after almost six years in practice, i've seen the power of manual medicine (cause usually people don't seek complimentary and alternative medicines until they've exercised every standard of care they have access to... being their PCP and then one [if not several] specialists... and still after being through the ringer of advanced imaging/various expensive and taxing diagnostics, they haven't quite reached a quality of living that they feel should be their new "normal") and in the same breath, i expressed how i've seen the limitation of what i'm able to do with a lot of conditions just using complimentary and alternative medicines. i see where a patient may need anti-imflammatory meds, steroid injections, antibiotics, muscle relaxants, and full-blown surgical interventions. i'm a man of science and believe we ought to exercise as conservative an intervention as possible :)

i also expressed how in my experience, integrating both sides of the treatment (medications/surgeries with manual/complimentary alternatives) usually creates better results altogether. mucom is my dream since i'm a hoosier and i'm so stoked to get started next year!! if you have any other questions just holla at me and i'd be glad to help you any way i know! be patient mostly mate, it'll happen

the oldest profession

not prostitution, though

Hunter?

I was (am?) a critical care RN. Time to switch gears, though, and I’m excited to learn more. I’ve spent the better part of a decade in the ICU and mostly I’ve learned how little I know. ;)

That was so not what I imagined from your SDN ID. :p
You would be surprised at the rate at which people ask me what I do for a living vs. just looking at my user ID!
