I'm trying to choose schools right now, and I've realized that I am likely to be happy anywhere I go. Basically, I'll be happy as long as I'm not miserable. So, a new approach -- what would or does make you unhappy at your MSTP or MD program? What should I try to check for at each of my choices?

The PhD ... but that is one you will not figure out until you are in it and happy/unhappy :p

I would say to look at/for similar people at your school of interest. If they are happy, then you are more likely to be happy. You also want institutional support for your personal/scientific endeavours. Finally, you are going to be at your school for the better part of a decade, so make sure that you take the little things into consideration as well (location, money, etc.). If you are really undecided, then roll the dice.
