So, I hear people started interviewing like in october...well, I have a couple interviews soon. What is considered a late interview and I hear late interviewers have less of a chance of getting in? I just wanna set the record straight and see if anyone knows... if you don't know, don't BS and pretend u kno,cuz u'r just wasting my gahdamn time and other eager pre-meds' gahdamn time too.

now you know why no one responded. i'm sure no one knows emphatically; besides it's probably different for different schools; we can only respond based on anectdotal evidence or what an adcom from a particular school told us...

Later in the interview season, rolling schools are believed to be more stringent in accepting people. At UMich, they said that they tend to start to pay more attention to the number of people they can accept towards the end so it may be easier to be accepted early on (this was said unofficially at my admissions day in october).

For non-rolling schools, I have been told that they may be more selective of who gets an inteview at the end; however, it shouldn't hurt your chance at admission to the same extent, if even at all. I was told this by my pre-med advisors who urged me to send in my application in july to the highly competitive schools for this reason.

I consider in my personal opinion february on late. Especially for schools like Vanderbilt that are rolling and started interviewing in August. A school like Stanford that started in December, February likely isn't that bad.

Hope this makes sense. Best of luck-

thanks socksandmittens for responding. way to be discouraging. haha. jk gluck wherever u go.. probably UMich?

I have no empirical data to back this up so I hope that I'm not wasting your time, but my opinion is any interview after now is a late interview. That being said, I'd be happy to take my chances with a late interview. If you can wow them towards the end of the cycle, you'll be fresh in their memory. Seems like it could be a good thing.

I don't think anyone can clearly define a "late" interview, but schools are required by the AAMC to accept enough applicants to fill their class by March 15. Given that some schools interview through March and even into May, I would consider any interview scheduled for March and beyond as late, since by then you are essentially interviewing for a waitlist position.
