I called Drexel, where my application is complete since September, to find out my status. I was told again that the application is complete and has not yet been reviewed. Given that Drexel is pretty much done interviewing and that I was complete pretty early, I'm really confused. Doesn't this mean that they don't review all applications they get or they review some when there are no more spots in their class. That would be pretty unfair considering the secondary application fee. I think most people who applied to Drexel have received either invites or rejections or holds. Anyone else in the same boat at Drexel?

I haven't heard anything either, but I don't think they are done interviewing. In fact, I think they interview for quite some time, even in to May. I called once, but their message said to e-mail for status checks, so I did, and have yet to hear back. I don't know... 😕

That is weird, but they're not done interviewing at all. I have an interview scheduled in April, and I read that someone else just scheduled one for May. My hunch is that they're banking on lots of us late interviewees canceling because we're making other plans, so they're probably going to be making invitations for a while.

The thing I don't like about Drexel is that it seems like you're totally at the mercy of whoever gets assigned your file (or interviews you), and they don't have any overall timeliness guidelines. My file was complete for two months before it was reviewed, and other people who were complete after me were reviewed earlier, which is just irritating. I can definitely get your frustration. They're disorganized, but don't give up hope yet.

I'm glad that they are still interviewing, thanks. Still, I don't understand their order of doing things. I can understand the schools prioritizing and inviting applicants with better applications first, putting others on hold, etc, but these people don't even look at the application at all for 6 months while reviewing the ones that were complete later!

I'm just really interested in Drexel...

I'm in the same boat. My app was complete in early november and it hasn' t even been reviewed yet. i know a lot of people are already on hold so even if i'm put on hold later I'm not sure I would ever get a chance to interview...sigh. 🙁

My husband interviewed late (March or April?) and got a straight acceptance, and he's a second year. So definitely don't give up hope, because their interviews do go late.

I'm not sure they haven't looked at your application. Maybe they did a preliminary review and then decided to review it again later? I think they have been overwhelmed by a large number of applications this year, and unfortunately they haven't gone and hired extra staff to handle it.

Interviewers do have guidelines as far as getting in evaluations, but the admissions office doesn't seem to be too good at actually following up on them. I know people who had similar things happen at other schools (one student who was around at my Jefferson interview day said she didn't hear back until months after she interviewed, even though at Jeff most people hear a week later! it was because her interviewer hadn't sent in her evaluation), but it does look like it's more common at Drexel this year. It's a shame, too. It bothers me that they're making themselves look bad, when what they really need is to look good, because it's a great school that just needs a boost in image.

Is there anything I can do to speed up the process? I pretty much thank them and hang up after they tell me the status.

You could try telling them that you've been complete since whenever, you are very interested in the school, and is there anything you can do to have your application reviewed. You might also send them a letter of interest, or even email the dean of admissions, Dr. Hanau, who is really nice.

:luck:

hey APP...i was also complete in sept...and haven't been reviewed yet (as of last week)...maybe we are assigned to the same reviewer...lol

i sent a letter of interest in november, a letter of support from a current drexel med student in december, and an abstract to a paper submitted for publication in january.

maybe i can hold my breath....now... 😉

That's really weird, I mailed in my secondary in early november, had my letters sent around Nov. 15th and I got an interview invite that was dated Dec. 12. And when I called to schedule it, the earliest spot was April 26th. But since then I've called up to check and I got a spot for Feb. 25th because of a cancellation. And I do NOT have a stellar application by any means (3.44, 28) so I don't understand how this process works. It's random, but not over yet so don't lose hope. Good luck to everyone who's still waiting.

hey apparition, i was in a similar situation at drexel. complete since august/september and when i called in january they said my app had not been reviewed (i think they lost my letters of rec). the woman said she would re-download the letters and place it under review. when i called back a few weeks later, they said they had sent me an interview invite (which i never received). anyway, i have an interview scheduled for april, but i still feel like i was screwed b/c i was complete so early. good luck!

Drexel has been MIA since August scores came out for me (completed secondary months before). I tried emailing, piggy-backing, update, etc., but all I get is "your file is waiting to be reviewed."

I am in the same boat. I have heard no word post-secondary from Drexel.

where are you guys staying? Anyone staying at the Wyndham downtown by Franklin Plaza?

I currently go to school in South Jersey so Ill probably just take the AC express way almost all the way to philly. It should only take me about an hour depending on how fast i drive

I'm from NY but go to school in Atlanta so I'm flying up, but I actually didn't even book a flight or hotel or anything yet 😳 i remember seeing on the website a list of motels and there's one that's really close to the school so i'll probably try to get that one.

My AIM is listed to the left if you two wanna talk about the interview...

yeah im from NY too .. but flying in from school in chicago on friday night.. I got my hotel off of hotwire .. for like 70 bucks. You can either jump on a train and get to the school but since the interview is on a saturday, they dont run as frequent so I think im just going to cabbing it. I was thinking about renting a car, but they rape you because im under 25 ..

I interviewed at Drexel on January 11, and I heard back from them yesterday (February 15). They said it would take 6-8 weeks for them to make a decision, so that was a really fast turnaround time (the letter was dated February 6).

I stayed at the City Avenue Holiday Inn (4100 Presidential Boulevard), it was $99 a night. The Drexel website says that this Holiday Inn has a shuttle between the hotel and the school. Unfortunately, this hotel doesn't actually have this shuttle any longer, but the hotel was nice and clean, and if you have a Holiday Inn Priority Club card you get a coupon for a very nice free breakfast buffet, and a free drink from their lounge, and some other free stuff. I took a taxi back and forth to the interview, it was about $10.00 each way. Another person who was interviewing said that he stayed at a hotel near the airport, and the cab ride was $50.00 each way.

OK, I am supposed to be writing a lab report for Cell Bio so I better get back to that! 😴

hmmm...I also interviewed on January 11th...haven't received anything yet. I stayed at the Wyndham Franklin Plaza Hotel, payed about $135 for a nice room and free internet if you sign up for the club thing. It's also in downtown, walking distance to a lot of things if you want to sightsee. It's also steps from the teaching hospital...and there's a free shuttle service there for students that takes you back to the queen lane campus. I payed for a taxi which cost about $20 from there, but a friend of mine who had a later interview date stayed at the Wyndham and talked to a shuttle driver the day before and was able to catch it the next day for free to get to his interview. Saved time and money. Wish I had known...

Hey yellowpersuazio, I'm not sure who you were from the group, but I was the only guy in the group from Pittsburgh. Anyway, good to hear from someone in my interview group! I really enjoyed the tour that they gave us at Drexel, especially going into the PBL session, and then hearing from the PBL director. Anyway, you probably will be hearing something from Drexel soon. 🙂

Also an Aug. MCAT'er here. who pushed up the interview from April (apparently they were overbooked so they scheduled a few weekend sessions in Feb...). I'm in NYC, so I'll just drive down there early mornin.

So I found out today that they are interviewing through may this year, but I don't know if that means some of those spots will only be for waitlist applicants

I interviewed in Drexel on January 21 and was accepted yesterday, the letter was dated Feb 20. Although they told us at the interview the turnaround time is 6-8 weeks, apparently it was much faster. I guess it depends on your interviewer.

That's the key. If your interviewer sucks (which really ends up blowing for the applicant) you get screwed.

My interviewer was a siekh (spelling?) guy who was not very nice as he questioned my exposure to medicine (I think he doubted I had enough exposure). The interview was very brief (15-20min), which seemed like not enough time to get to know a student. I did not expect an acceptance. Good luck to all of those waiting on decisions from Drexel, and remember that what seemed like a bad interview to you is not an indication of how you actually did or of the outcome :luck:

Don't forget about your student interviewer. Apparently their opinion pulls a lot of weight.

Dont lose hope guys, I was initially placed on hold for interview a month ago but just got an interview invite today in the mail.

I just declined my acceptance at drexel, so hopefully someone else can get that spot. Good luck
