Univ of Mich Medical School recruiter/representative is coming to town today to meet iwth a bunch of premeds at my undergrad.

I have already applied and filled out their secondary. Does it help me to go and talk about their school? I am feeling exceptionally lazy today and been suffering allergy attacks....I really don't want to go unless somehow, this person forwards my name to an Ad Com there to make me look good.

Call me selfish..but i really have important things to do and I don't feel like wasting my time if I am not going to get anywhere. What do you think? How can I maximize my chance at U Mich (not my top choice, but it could be the only school I get into) today?

Let me know!

Go, but only go if you can summon enthusiasm. Medicine is like many things a bit of a 'who you know' network - who knows if this person is on the admissions committee, but going and showing enthusiasm for their school can't hurt. Also you can always mention this encounter as being an 'inspiring' reason to attend Mich at interview - makes it sound like you did some homework on the school :)

I don't think that speaking to the recruiter/rep. is going to affect your chances of getting in one way or the other. If you think you might learn something about the school that you don't already know, then go; otherwise, I agree that it'll probably be a waste of time.

Go and wow them with your supreme awesomeness :)

btw, have you gotten the LOR request?

The recruiter probably travels all over meeting with tons of students. I don't think there is any way you can do something that will improve your chances, but maybe you could just go to learn more about the school.

I don't have the LOR request yet, which is why I was actually considering to go. Still in two minds.

I'd rather work on more secondaries. :( More input?

LOL Blitz: I like the part "Supreme Awesomeness." It might just go into my profile. :D

How many times am I allowed to vote? ;)

The recruiter is not going to be on the adcom. Adcom members are professors, not recuiters. I suppose there is some small chance s/he knows someone on the adcom, but I think the chances of this being so, and remembering you out of all the students s/she meets, and mentioning it to this adcom member, and the adcom person remembering it when your app gets reviewed, are infintessimal. Your time would be better spent working on secondaries.

I am seriously think of going there and asking them point blank: what's it gonna take to increase my chances for an interview?

Still in two minds (cuz I feel so damn sick!),

Oh, Tweetie, I forgot to say "get well soon!"

The answer to the question you're thinking of asking is "nothing." What's done is done. You've submited your AMCAS, and now they're making decisions based on it. What more could you possibly do? Ddon't obssess over this app. Just make those remaining secondaries shine! (And get well soon!) :)

Go Tweetie! You'll blow them away.

Besure to ask that question!

As a fellow allergy sufferer, I sympathize. Get better soon.

i would go and ask.

i have a friend that is a recruiter of Valpo and she has a good deal of info on what it takes to get into the school and what you need to do.

Based on that I would go and ask.

btw good luck ;)

Let us know how it goes, if you do go, Tweetie! :)

In case it's not too late....

Muster enough will ( and say a prayer ) and go.

Name recognition is an excellent advantage for any competitive process. Make sure you make yourself stand out. Don't wear orange but introduce yourself, say something outstanding about yourself, admit you have applied, shake his/her hand, and look her directly in the eye.

Believe me...it works if nothing but for your sanity and personal growth.

I think you should go, introduce yourself, flash him, you know the usual. Be sure to get pics of the flash and post them.

You guys are all awesome for giving me the right advice. Thank you thank you thank you.

I did end up going. And I spoke to a guy who is actually a resident there AND ON THE AD COM!!!. Man! Mich is a good school and i would love to go there, if i end up interviewing. At the end of the meeting, he told the current applicants to meet with him and gave us his email address and said he would provide us with any other information/help as he thinks is possible. He is an awesome person....they really picked a wonderful rep. I wish I could share his info with you guys but I am afraid what might happen if he gets bombarded with a million emails all from applicants.

I am really glad I went. He gave me a few names and told me that I could write to them and see how that goes. I am definitely going to go to every other workshop for all the schools recruiting at my University.

Thanks again for all the encouragement. He did seem impressed with what I told him about my application, but I hope he wasn't just faking it... I am feeling much better physically too. Perhaps it's the encouragement he gave me.

Thanks again!!!

So you flashed him too? (kidding!!)

But seriously, I'm glad it went well. :D :D

where's the pics?

But anyway...

LOL you brat! Go watch a porn or something, take a "load off." :D That's saved for interviewing time for when the Ad Com says "so why do you wanna come here?"
