Just wondering - when would I start completing the primary amcas app if I am wrting the mcat in august?? Would I start sending in my transcripts in may - fill out and submit app in june and finish my 2ndaries in aug but then wait until i receive the mcat scores to submit the 2ndaries?

Apply just like you would if you had taken your MCAT in April. The only thing is that schools will probably wait on your MCAT. But it'll be to your benefit to have everything done and the school waiting on the MCAT alone.

thats the best way to go but the downside is if you get bad score all your secondary $ is wasted

I took the august MCAT and applied during this application season. You should definately fill out your primary ASAP during the month of May and submitt it in June. Also, gather you letters of recommendation. Then study hard and take the MCAT. You will probably get secondary application invitations before your MCAT scores are in. Too many folks advised against doing this but here is my current status:

Applied to 29 schools, completed 28 secondaries, so far I have been invited for 12 interviews, I have completed 3, and I have 2 offers of admissions.

Hi there,
Do not wait until you receive your August MCAT score to complete the AMCAS application. Your score will not be back until around October 15th. If you wait that long you will be way behind.

I took MCAT (only once) in August but my AMCAS application was in on June 30th. I already had secondary applications from four of the six schools that I had applied to. When my MCAT scores came in, the rest of the secondaries came and my interviews came shortly after that.

Do realize that some schools will not send you secondaries until your MCAT scores are in especially those that screen for MCAT and GPA.

Get as much of your application done as quickly as possible.

Kind of a side topic but I didn't want to create a new thread. What's better in guys' opinions: Lower mcat score but early applicant vs. higher mcat score but late applicant. (GPA and Extracirriculars are both very good if that matters in your decision)

depends how late, and how big of an MCAT differential. 3 points is a HUGE difference and if you think you would gain that much, then wait... 1 or 2, I would apply earlier. That being said, if your "low" mcat score means not-10s across the board, I would wait. Applying early really is a huge advantage.

Depending on how you feel you might want to take the april MCAT and just void it if it goes poorly. Between now and april is all the time you really need to study.

I took the MCAT in April and got a bad score but I still applied as early as I could (my AMCAS was in the first day it could be in June). I re-took the test in August and did 5 points better so after that, the harder secondaries came and more interviews to boot. Apply as early as you can!
