I'm thinking of sending an update letter to schools around late October/early November. I had originally wanted to send one in early October, but it turns out I have some volunteering events scheduled for later in the month that I'd like to put in the letter. When's a safe deadline to give myself for the letter so that I'm not sending an update to schools without any interview spots left? I know that many schools are scheduling into December already, which makes me worry that I should send the update earlier rather than later. However, most of the schools where I am planning to send the update have non-rolling admissions and are scheduling into October-November right now.
Also, I'll have a middle-author publication (my only publication) submitted (but not accepted) sometime in November. Should I wait to send in the letter so that this is included or send it earlier?
