Hey guys- i'm new to this thread- i'll be applying this summer for med school and taking the april mcats. i was just wonderring... is it okay (best?) to submit my amcas before i even get my mcat score to make everything go faster so that when the mcats come in i don't have to compete to click that submit button with all the thousands of others?

😎

I will be retaking the MCAT in Augest but plan on running home and hitting submit the second AMCAS allows me to. Last year I didn't submit my amcas until October. Whats worse is I ddin't finish my secondaries until early November. I'm not saying that I'm sure I would of got in but I think applying so late definately had an effect on my application process. It is even more of a factor when you are a border line applicant like I was.

friday the thirteenth. at midnight, in the bathroom iwth several sticks of incense and candles burning around an altar/shrine covered witht he pictures of the deans for admission at all of the schools you are applying to. wearing all your clothes inside out is of course, optional

I agree 100%.. Don't forget the incense. That will make or break your application.

Also, black lights sometimes help.

Keep in mind, the earlier, the better. I took the April and August MCATs which I think helped my application. Although many schools will still "wait" to complete your application, it is still further along than most people that wait until August/September to file. At the absolute latest, I would get them in by August 1st, and have your secondaries out no later than the end of the month ( two weeks after you get them is reasonable, especially if you get backed up with multiple apps).

Good luck!

Oh yeah,

DON'T wait until the MCATs arrive to submit your application. Hit submit as soon as you possibly can. It will put you that much farther ahead.

Also, your app will be verified a lot sooner than if you wait until August and get backlogged.

Here is a neat trick that worked for me. Submit your application.

Then, instead of paying the $15 bucks to get your MCAT scores online, look at your application. It will show there WAY before you get them in the mail.

Shhh... dont want to get AMCAS mad at me for that one.

Get started, and good luck!

Wow, all these posts are so helpful.

Thanks all of you! You're great!

yup, i was going to post that..

i agree, click submit before the MCAT (as long as you feel your MCAT went ok).

Just another tip: don't submit your AMCAS the first day you can. In 2001, when there were big problems, most of the people highly affected submitted the first day. Almost everyone who waited just 24-48 hours or so was much better off. I know AMCAS got their act much more together for 2002, but who knows what 2003 will bring?

was this an april exam for the 2002-2003 cycle? i remember filling out my application, clickin 'print' but not submitting the the application. however, didn't recall seeing any scores. so, i had to dish out $15 to get it.

The most important thing you can worry about now, aside from studying for the MCAT, is getting your LORs in place. Now is the time to request. These can be difficult to get, since they are out of your control. Just because someone likes you, doesn't mean that they will adhere to your time table.

I already had my april scores, these were for the august. Since my app was already processed by the time the scores were available, it updated automatically.

I was told not to submit my AMCAS until I had my scores back, because that way I'd know what range of schools to apply to and wouldn't waste a lot of money. And trust me, it did affect my decisions.

I submitted about a week after I got my scores in June, and had absolutely no problem with getting early secondaries and interviews. Wait to get your scores back.
