I know it is best to submit AMCAS early, but at what point does "late" submission actually begin to harm your chances?

late july, or august. i think you're ok through all of june and the middle of july. honestly depends on your turnaround time on secondaries

That depends on your stats. If you've got a 4.0 and a 45 MCAT along with first-authorship on a paper in Nature, then you can apply whenever you damn well feel like it. For us real people, the deadline will be much earlier.

  5. The earlier, the better.

I submitted July 1st last year and my advisor told me that was fine but anytime after mid-July, it's getting late.

I would venture to say August is less ideal and everything past september is fairly late. Keep in mind it takes about a month to start recieving secondaries (albeit some come sooner), and then it takes time to complete secondaries. I know there will be many posts something along the lines of "I submitted my AMCAS in November and didn't have a problem" etc, but you probably want to be complete (including secodaries) before the fall begins (keep in mind you theoretically have more time in the summer than you do in the fall).

Please apply asap. Last year I was completed on aug 31- with my gpa 3.9, mcat 33, out 10 school , i got only one interview, then i was waitlisted until may 30, got accepeted may 30. It was my biggest mistake to applyed that late, Please applied asap, and lots of schools too.

Does complete include your MCAT score?

I believe if you submit, the schools will receive your primary, but might wait to send you a secondary until they receive the MCAT score.

I am pretty sure that most schools that don't screen before sending secondaries WILL send you a seconday but will NOT review your application before getting your MCAT scores (even if you have your 1st scores submitted, they will wait for your new scores if that is the case).
