I need to choose from a few different schools and need to know exactly when they will be accrdited. When it comes down to it I will pick a school that has aleady been accredited. I need to know ASAP. THANKS! PS....just out of curiosity what is the process?

UNLV is accredited. Full accreditation occurs after the first class is graduated, which occurs this year.

Initial accreditation, which is what UNLV has (and Arizona until it graduates its first class in 2007) allows the students the same opportunities as students at any other school. That is, students take the NBDE exams as accredited students, and take the regional licensure exams as well.

For all intents and purposes there is NO difference between an initial accreditation school and any other school--only the fact that a first class has not yet graduated. I wouldn't let that be a key player in deciding where to attend.

so....the full accredidation for UNLV won't complete until the end of this semester?............what can stop it?............I heard that a law suit can stop any accredidation.....meaning there can't be any lawsuits pending for an accredidation to go through

Don't you think that is kind of a lame criteria for choosing a school. Since you are a predent and you really don't have a clue as to what accredation entitles or what it really means.

Dirtie has a good point. Although, coming from the failed Hawaii college of pharmacy, I can say it is always a good idea to look into accreditation and make sure the school is on its way, which UNLV is.

This was my point exactly.....Hawaii screwed over many students and a law suit is pending........Dirtie, No this is not lame to make a decision based on accredidation..........especially when you hear inside stories of how disorganized UNLV is....and how they keep changing their courses around and how the students are basically guinie pigs....and that the dean is crazy...but he is leaving in july..this is more of a concern...you should know because you go to UNLV....but I am sure they will get accredited even if UNLV can't get their **** together.......but all it will take is some crazy to file a law suit and the accredidation will be held up until it is resolved....which ofcourse will have to be lagitamate

i think the op has a legimate concern.. i wouldn't want to go to a school that is not accredited.. who wants to be a graduate that is not recognized by the u.s. government??

UNLV has accreditation. It has accreditation when the first class started. This is much different from Hawaii where the first class entered the school when the school did not have accreditation.

I am graduating from UNLV in May. I do not feel like a guinea pig. I have been happy with my education. Sure there have been bumps along the road, but it has been well worth it.

As for the dean, he must have done something right since he was chosen to replace Dugoni at Pacific.

I'd like to hear your inside stories about UNLV disorganization. PM me if you would like.

They keep changing our courses for the good!. That is what is good about UNLV. You go to a school that is old and established and they may want to change things, but it just doesn't happen for years, a lot of excellent faculty picked up and left their extablishments and came to UNLV so they could run it the way that they thought was the best, not tradition or some other bologna. Trust me this school is very on the ball, rumors are just that, rumors. I am still glad that I choose here.

Hey can you please elaborate on how and why the UNLV dean is "crazy". I'm going to UoP and since Ferrillo is the new UoP dean, this might be a concern for me. Please explain. Thanks.

I agree with you.....they are correcting problems fast....and it is better than an old institution that wont change.......and someone going to the school should not be concerned too much......rumors can be just rumors but in this case they are not.....but they have just about worked out the bugs

don't worry about that...UoP is a good school.....u wont have to deal with him.....just do well and everything will be fine.......he does well with running dental schools... even if he uses dishonest ways in order to help his own record .......some words come to mind.....dishonest, God complex, tyrant, self centered, stats stats stats...the list goes on and on....
