I was wondering where I should apply for my ER residency. I do not really have a preference as to what part of the country. I am looking for a good learning environment that does not completely abuse their residents..

you need to go to www.saem.org and read about each residency and visit their web pages. THat is a good starting point.
Also, www.emra.org is a good resource for students.
SDN is a forum which will provide you with a hundred different opinions...so go to the websites and decide what may fit your needs.

County General in Chicago has a good program, from what I've heard. Contact someone named Weaver.

Hello all...

Freeeedom! gives good advice...we could all list our favorite programs, but it would just be based on our own experiences and it was done in the past...Freeeedom!, you just matched in EM also, right? Good luck...kind of scary. Anyway, ChaCha...if you can get to the ACEP Scientific Assembly (Oct in Seattle) go to the residency fair...oftentimes there are residents there from programs that you can talk to and get info.

By the way...don't go searching emra.org or saem.org for County General. You won't find it.

Freeeedom!...I just read my post, and it doesn't sound right...I meant that it's going to be scary to start residency in a month...not that you're an EM doc... 😀

ChaCha,

In case you aren't aware...SAEM(Society for Academic Emergency Medicine) is having their annual conference May 18-22 in St. Louis. They have a Medical Student Symposium scheduled for Saturday, May 18th, where program directors from many ER residencies will answer questions/provide information on ER Residencies and Emergency Medicine as a Career, etc. It is a good opportunity to hear about different residency programs directly, and to ask them about their program specifically. Here is a link on the symposium, and you can contact SAEM via phone to find out if the symposium is full or not. Good luck and maybe I'll see you there!
