hey chi-chi:

I counted 32 schools there. Holy shmackeral! That must have cost a small fortune (and I'm not even counting secondary fees!). Congratulations on Mich...a friend of mine from Tulane got in too (his name is Ken, but you can call him BK).

Hey everyone,
I really like the idea that everyone the status of their medical school applications. It allows a lot of people to gather information from the experiences of others.
One interesting thing that I noticed by looking at everyone else's schools is how lucky I must have been to get an interview at Loyola. As you can see, the reputations of the schools to which I applied are not nearly as good as some of those listed by the people above, but yet many these people were not granted an interview at Loyola. Instead, they received interviews and acceptances from schools where I was flat out rejected (ex: Michigan and Dartmouth). Does that make sense? I guess that just goes to show exactly how unpredictable the medical school process is!

UGBoI-
Yup, I'm from Canada.
I'm thinking of becoming a U.S. citizen if I re-apply (my mom's American, so I'm eligible to become one). My stats are pretty decent, and I assumed they'd get me in somewhere, but maybe being a U.S. citizen will tip the scales in my favour next time around (also, no August MCAT this time).

"Yup, I'm from Canada."

medgrrl, If you're from Canada, do you play hockey?

(sorry, couldn't resist - hope you know the Don Cherry song...) Good luck!!!! I'll be joining the applicant ranks in June.

Cool......I think becoming a U.S. citizen will definately tip the scales in your favor b/c you have great stats. I'm going to apply to some state schools as well ... but I doubt that I will get in .... Aw well

Hey Focker:

As an Illinois resident, which Illinois school do you think is best?

Hi, medgirl.

I am also from Canada, but going to college in the States.

Where did you go for your undergrad?

Hey Focker:

I really like Northwestern. I love the progressive curriculum and the location is amazing. UChicago is also very good, especially if you would prefer a more traditional curriculum with lots of lecture. These are clearly the best and which is better for you is simply personal preference.

I would put Loyola and Rush at about the same level, both solid schools. I probably prefer Rush because it's actually in the city instead of the suburbs. Loyola is Jesuit, and while I don't think this affects the school much, it may be something to consider.

UIC isn't bad, but I wouldn't go if they tried to send me anyplace but Chicago.

From everything I hear, Finch (Chicago Med) is a terrible school. It's ridiculously expensive and in the middle of nowhere. Additionally, from what I read the students hate it there and most people go becasue it's the only place they got in.

I don't know much about the one or two schools downstate, since I would never want to be in southern Illinois. They also prefer rural Illinois students to city boys like me.

Well, caffeinegirl, it's sad that I won't be seeing you in Durham this August. But I'm glad UCSF made you so happy. What an exciting four years you're going to have!

Best of luck, and enjoy!

caffeinegirl --

Congrats on making a decision on UCSF. I visited San Francisco last year, and I can see why you fell in love with it. I wish you the best of luck!

OD-
Well, I don't know if I should go too far in detail about my relationship with my sig other on such an open forum...But, in answer to your question, if Chi-Chi and I ever broke up, I think my sadness from having lost one of the most amazing individuals I have ever met would over shadow any regret about UCSF.

My sig other and I are a little bit older than most med school applicants and we have some serious plans already. If I were 21 and just graduating from college, maybe things would be different. I have always put my educational goals ahead of relationships because up until now, I did not feel that I had experienced enough or matured enough to commit to relationships more than to school. I now have a clearer vision of what I want out of medicine and out of life to know that choosing between two great medical schools isn't so tough. On the other hand, I feel that our relationship is strong enough and may even benefit from some time apart. The hardest part of not going to UCSF is the money because I am not from a wealthy family and the kind of medicine I would like to practice does not pay so well.

If you'd like to talk some more, you can email me.

lizard, I still have the utmost faith that you and chi-chi will get off the lists at Cornell or Penn. But if not, you guys always have the one acceptance together. Keep the faith!! I know people may not understand your decision, but the one thing I have learned is that "You have nothing to prove to anyone except yourself." Do what makes you happy and have no regrets!! You have only one life to live and it is YOURS to live!!
smile.gif

Thanks everyone for the kind words!
I feel just so relieved now...it's all winding down!

As for Columbia, well I'm not keeping any hope, and it's really no point withdrawing since I've not been sending letters indicating my interest every week
smile.gif
I have a feeling I'm quickly moving to the bottom of the list

Yes it feels good to move to the Center of the Universe tofu! Now I can understand why you are so proud of your state!

And omores, it was great meeting you at Duke, and I congratulate you on your decision. I hope that you have a great time there
smile.gif

PS: Keep the faith Christiangirl! I'm psychically sending messages to Duke to give you that acceptance!

I had been pretty good recently about forgetting about the Duke waitlist, that is until reading these last few posts. Now I'm stuck thinking about it again, but obviously that won't do any good. At least with finals and graduation (Yeah!!!) in the next few weeks, I should be able to keep my mind occupied. And then after May 15th I may call the Admissions Office and see if they'll let me know if I'm on the top half or bottom half of the list. Hang in there christiangirl, I'm right there with you!

Thanks for the kind words caffeinegirl and crafty. I sincerely wish you the best caffeinegirl and maybe we will meet in 4 years for residency!!

About Duke...The way I see it according to the TPR forum, Duke made 200 offers. However, someone said that more had responded off the bat this year in immediate acceptances. According to a Duke MS1 on the other site, 157 have already accepted and Duke was in an uproar about how many "extras" they would have this year. However, when I called admissions they said that this was typical as deposits are not required yet and they expect a huge turnover around May 15th when they are due. Based on what "In the Know" said on the other site, typically Duke makes 250 offers each year, but this year they were more stingy thinking that more people may accept because of the Championship win and increase in rankings. So, my guess is there either will be a huge turnover soon or not, but either way I'm just going to be optimistic that it will work itself out (with a little help from God.)
smile.gif
I intend to call on May 15th and have been promised at that point, I will be told "more likely or less likely." Best wishes Crafty!! Who knows, maybe we will be classmates this year. It's still early and I haven't even began to work up a sweat for this fight!!
smile.gif
So, did you decide which of the Texas schools to hold onto?

Hey Christiangirl:

Did you send anything to Duke updating your file, like letters of interest or anything? I know Duke says you can't change your rank on the Waitlist, but I wonder if that's really true. Well, best of luck to ya.
