im a california resident who has done undergrad at Wash U in St. Louis, and ideally id like to go back to california for medical school because i love the atmosphere and want to be near family. however, i know how important it is to apply to many many schools so that you have options. any advice on what other schools i should apply to? GPA is 3.98, MCAT 31, curriculum wise id like lecture and small group learning (not mostly PBL tho) thanks!

NYMC is a good option of an OOS friendly school especially considering the large proportion of CA students it has and that many of them match back to California. Check it out.

Other schools: VCU, Albany, Drexel, Jefferson, Rosalind Franklin, Loyola, UIC...the list goes on and on if you look around for it.

wait what does moving to what are my chances mean?

The general pre-allopathic forum is a place to discuss issues that relate to pre-meds in general. A common question that comes up is, "What are my chances to get into medical school?" or, "Where are some schools where I might be competitive based on my stats?" While we want to be able to help people with these kinds of questions, these kinds of questions aren't necessarily pertinent to pre-meds at large. Therefore, we have a special subforum called "What are my Chances?" specifically for answering these kinds of questions. Since your question is more appropriate for that forum, I moved it there.

CWRU offers 50/50 lecture/small group. And it's not PBL there it's small group.
