Hey, has anyone done rotations at Downey near LA? I am curious if there are small apts nearby the hospital or if you commute from a neighboring city? How far is west La from there?

Hi,
I did a rotation there earlier in the year. I stayed with a friend in Culver City...commute was against traffic and took be about 40-50 min each way. It was faster in the morning because I was leaving very early...bottom line is its LA traffic, what can you do.

so would you recommend finding somewhere to stay closer to Downey then? Have any ideas of places?

Yea, I would recommend staying as close to the hospital as possible, especially since the 3rd year rotations there are quite time consuming--12 hr day + 2 hrs total commute doesn't leave much time for eating and sleeping. Sorry I don't know of any places to stay but I've heard some of the nurses have rented out rooms in the past.

if you contact Rosa Avila (the FP Residency coordinator/Student clerkship coordinator) in the office of medical education... she can give you the phone number of a nurse who rents out rooms to students on a monthly basis.

you should be able to find her email address on the drmc website.
