I did HPSP, so I owe the Air Force 4 years of service after I complete 4 years of Radiology residency at a civilian program (I was deferred). I was wondering if anyone out there knows where I will most likely end up when I complete residency and go active duty in 2010.
Where are the most likely places they would send me?
Where have they been sending radiologists?
Do we have much/any say in where we end up?

I thank you in advance for any information and experience you could share.

If you know anyone active duty now, they can get on the assignment system and type the AFSC for Diag Rads and print you up the current openings for the next assignment openings. Obviously, it won't be the same as when you graduate, but it will likely have the majority of locations you can go to as a Radiologist. I'm going to Rads @ SAUSHEC this summer, so if you don't have anyone to help you, message me back and I can help you out.

Your first tour is considered a "utilization tour". This is when they send you somewhere no one else wants to go like overseas. During your last year of residency you will need to talk to your detailer to get your assignment. You can tell the detailer your prefrences but ultimately its the detailer's call where you go.

I remember hearing something as a med student... something about them not moving you unless you've been somewhere for at least 2 or 3 years, and they won't move you unless you'll be there at your new location for at least a certain amount of time. Since I only owe 4 years, does that mean I'll likely spend all on my 4 years in the same place?

If you get a 3 year billet you could get a one year extension and that would give you a total of 4 years. Just remember that anything can happen at any time🙂
