I'm just wondering if you can tell me which schools in this list are research oriented. (i.e. Which schools are heavily funded for research?) Thanks!

According to the NIH's website, the top five dental schools in terms of funding for 2016 were Alabama, UCSF, Harvard, UNC, and Michigan. This ranking could differ a bit due to other sources of funding (like private donors), but I couldn't find any more info.

NIDCR Grants to U.S. Dental Institutions, FY 2016

As far as your question goes, the term research-oriented is a fairly subjective, since it's hard to pin a dollar amount cutoff to it. I'd just look at the funding rankings on the NIH website and then the specific research at the schools themselves.

On that list NYU probably has the most research, but it is also a very clinically oriented school. If you are interested in research, Alabama is by far the best in terms of offering research opportunities.
