I'll humor you, only because if you don't want to be around Jews, then Jews probably don't want to be around you. Loma Linda will have no observant Jews because the school requires Chapel and Jews are not allowed to be in another religion's place of worship.

What an odd question, with no feasibly legitimate reason behind it...

why would you want to know something like that?

Here is the story:
My Gchem II professor totally ignored me when I raised my hand for a question a week ago. During the same period of time, he answered other people's questions with his utmost effort. This had occurred on two different dates last week, so I went to his office today, and tried to check with him whether he has any problems with me. He said "Absolutely not, make sure you raise your hand higher next time". I had raised my hand pretty high though! The same thing happened today again. I raised my hand on three different topics, and he simply ignored me as if I was not in the class (There are about 40 students in the class). He answered other people's questions though. I had to keep my hand up for about a minute for the last time, and it still did not work. On the first day, he said we can ask questions ANYTIME during his lecture.
I am Muslim, and it is pretty obvious from my name. I have no doubt that he is discriminating against me for religion because I have never done anything wrong in this class. Always attended lecture, got good grades on the tests, never spoke in class, nothing wrong. He wears a yamica by the way, and that's why I know he is Jewish. Anyway, I don't have anything against all Jews, but I simply want to stay away as much as I can. No offense...

I can see where you're coming from that's a totally legitimate question. However the only advise i can give is stay out of long island for sure! Its who you are and a big part of your religion everyone these days is way to PC. I personally like to stay away from Muslims. No offence to you, its just me. Good luck finding a school :)

If you suspect discrimination from a professor that is one thing but to take an isolated incident and paint a whole religion and culture with one brush based on that is wrong. You are doing the same thing that you accuse him of doing. I'm sure you've had other Jewish professors who did not wear a Yarmulke but you didn't know they were Jewish. Your problem is with one professor, not with Jewish people in general. Grow up.

If he clearly looks Muslim he is bound to run into problems with certain groups. God, PC has taken over the world!

Yeah so people will be offended and that's a pretty stupid reason to stay away from Jews. (I'm Jewish btw.)

If he is in fact discriminating against you then that makes HIM as an individual a racist and an idiot at that. Any Jewish classmate of mine would have no problem befriending you or any other Muslim. I personally have had several Muslim friends, and they have all been wonderful people.

This is how racism can spread so easily. Don't let one idiot influence your views of an entire religion, race, etc.

Of course maybe there are other reasons why he didn't call on you, or perhaps you are overreacting to nothing.

I am muslim as well (born muslim actually, not religious though).

This is completely wrong and unacceptable. You shouldn't try to "stay away" form an entire group of people just because one member treated you unfairly. Sure your professor is a dick but what you are doing is even worse.

to the OP you should put this professor in his place by calling his ass out in class just flat out ask him why he is not calling you in front of everyone. see how he reacts. keep doing it until he gets that you care more about learning and not your divergent religious beliefs

Fun facts:

According to a 2006 census, there were ~5.3 million Jews (rounding up) in America. 2006 was also the year we hit 300 million people in the country, so Jews accounted for about 1.8% (rounding up) of our population.

Hardly overwhelming numbers.

if you don't want to see jews dont do dentistry, do something where no one is successful....for example: a garbage man because you wont find jews in those types of fields.
otherwise cut out your antisemitism and break off from your expected religous discrimination against jews and be a descent individual

I'm Muslim too and in my sophomore year two Jewish kids in my research group told me that everyone from the middle east should be suspected, that we all hated Jews, and that they wanted to nuke Iran (I'm Iranian too). I once got a flier about Islamofascism Awareness Week in the school mail. Obviously, I get what you're saying, but most Jewish people aren't like that. Those particular people (the two kids, your prof, etc.) are just asinine. I couldn't even be mad at those two kids my sophomore year because what they were saying was so completely ridiculous and I felt like I was in a really politically incorrect version of The Office. Just work hard, get A's, and know that haters don't have anything on you.

Dude, I am muslim and I had a jewish professor who was one of my best teachers! It is not cool to judge the whole community based on one bad experience that you had with your teacher! Dental school is made up of many jews and muslims and everyone is cool. Be respectful.

So let me ask you this- what do you plan on doing when a Jewish patient sits down in one of your chairs, either in dental school or in practice?? Are you going to refuse treating them just because of some idea you have based on an experience with one professor? I am Jewish, and find the fact that you want to enter a healthcare profession with complete disregard to an entire group of people 100% offensive.

OP: Peace be upon you, I am Muslim as well and as Muslims we respect all other faiths, especially the People of the Book.

I know as Muslims we unfortunately face a lot of discrimination, but by no means should you let one incident shape your views about an entire people. Use this as an opportunity to educate him about Islam : )

Wow. I'd like to point something out - and a plague upon my ignorance if this turns into an unecessary argument, BUT - a lot of people on this thread are incredibly ignorant and closed-minded. Sure the OP's question sounded anti-Semitic......but how do you know he wasn't kidding?? So my question to all of you -- how do YOU plan on treating your patients when they come to your office and say something that may cause confusion or anger? The bottom line is you have to be open to people's requests and treat people's comments lightly - don't take them seriously!

You see what has happened? Mini arguments have arisen...and for what - some person's harmless question? I know many of you people are stressed over applications and hearing from schools and such...but whether this happens now or any other time...doesn't matter. People need to be more light-hearted and perhaps think of the OP's comment as a joke, not a threat? What's a matter with you guys?

Life is a comedy...I was hopin more people knew that -- and I'm just bringing this up to educate some people...especially since I guess not much of that has been goin on in the department of humanism at your University. Come on guys, work with me here. We are all human...

What's even more pathetic is that I know that some people won't even think anything of my message and continue on in their pathetic lives of judgment, criticism, and blame --and continue this throughout their dental careers. For the love of whomever...be kind to your fellow human beings.

Here we go again.......you see what I mean people? This person is attacking another random person for no reason whatsoever. Wow people!! Read my previous post.

Blanka's comment was actually very appropriate and an example of what a normal response to the OP's question should be. "Just answer the poor kid's question!" And stop judging...

How can you write what you just did and end with "No offense"?
Ridiculous
This incident (and others people have described) just sound like a personal thing. What is important is trying to understand where others are coming from, we are a product of our environments. example: my parents hate Fords and for some unknown reason so do I.
I have two close friends that hang out all the time, one is Muslim and the other is Jewish, they get along fine. If you are planning on dental school you need to realize that you are in the real world, so grow up and be the bigger person when crappy situations arise.

Wow how old are we? Two wrongs dont make a right, this kind of thinking is why the world is the way it is now. Try to practice some tolerance and don't worry if you do have a muslim classmate he/she isn't gonna put a pipe bomb on your handpiece or high vac.
