Hi Guys, I am asking this question for a friend. What is more important for adcoms; the overall gpa or the science gpa? What is the average overall gpa and science gpa to get into an average or any med school? What is a good way to higher your gpa? Is it good to retake some classes where he got a C, D? and he couldve done much better? or whats a better way? Any one?

Eduardo

The average GPA/MCAT for applicants and those that got in are posted on the <a href="http://www.aamc.org/data/facts/famg62001a.htm" target="_blank">AAMC website</a>. The <a href="http://pnet400.aamc.org/AAMC_Store/itemDetail.cfm?store=PUBLICATIONS&item=ARA3&category=" target="_blank">Medical School Admission Requirements</a> lists the average GPA/MCAT for each medical school.

As far as re-taking classes, for any requisite coursework (General Biology, General Chemistry, General Physics, Organic Chemistry) a grade of D is not satisfactory for medical school and the class would need to be retaken.

All grades, regardless if the class has been re-done, are computed in the AMCAS GPA's.

I just realized this was on the Pre-Osteopathic forum (I use View Today's Topics so sometimes I misjudge which forum I am in). The <a href="http://www.aacom.org/data/annualreport/index.html" target="_blank">AACOM</a> publishes this data for osteopathic schools.
