Which month to take off for Interviews?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
It's really personal preference. I took off January, but got a few out of the way the week before the holidays and had a relatively relaxed month (aside from the general misery of waiting in airports, bad weather, being broke, etc.). I don't think it makes any difference as far as programs go...

I took December off for interviews- it was nice to have them all over before the holidays.

Assuming one completes their application relatively early, which month (December or January) will the majority of their interviews occur on? Thanks.

I had interviews in late Nov, Dec and Jan, but the bulk of my interviews were in Dec and Jan. For December you lose the last week in the month to holidays so my interviews were pretty much back to back in Dec whereas in Jan they were more evenly spaced out.

The only caution is that I encountered a program that only interviewed through December. I can't remember precisely which one, but I think it was a smaller one. Also, depending on how many interviews you do, and where you are flying out of, it might require more time to do the traveling. As mentioned above, most places don't interview at all the week between Christmas and New Year, and some don't do them the few days before/around Christmas. So doing them in December could cut short your time-- especially if you are getting offers in mid-late November, and need some time to plan your flights, etc. If you could ideally group your interviews geographically, that would help, but unfortunately interviews tend to trickle in, and at more competitive programs you need to schedule right away, so they don't fill up-- and then another program in the same area offers an interview, but they may not have a date that lines up with the other interview-- trust me, it can be quite a mess! 😉
