Hey guys,

I am having a hard time choosing between Yals's and University of Michigan's MPH program. I have never been to the east coast so i can't really tell the strenght and weakness of each program except for the info i get from their school website. Do any of you have any recommendation?

Didn't Yale's school of public health lose it's accreditation this past year? I'm pretty sure that I remember hearing that somewhere, though I don't remember where. I would definitely look into that because there are more opportunities for graduates of accredited schools (particularly if you are considering publich health internships/fellowships at key organizations like CDC, HRSA, ASPH, etc.)

U Mich is definitely a stronger program--it consistently ranks in the top 5, and rightfully so.

Actually this is absolute not true, i confirmed it with the school. Anyways, anyone else have any recommendation?

Okay, I'm glad you cleared that up. Actually, I just spoke to my friend who I thought had told me that they lost their accreditation, and she said that she just couldn't find them in the most recent ranking. That would be either because they lost their accreditation (which apparently they did not) or because they dropped off of the top 10 schools. Considering that there are only 26 accredited schools that would even be eligible for ranking, it's probably not a good sign.

Anyway, you should ask yourself how involved in public health you want to be. If you are hard core, I would definitely go the U Mich route. But if you are just looking for something that will supplement your MD, it probably isn't going to matter which school you go to. In that case, I would choose whichever program is more appealing to you and whichever location you would want to be in while getting your MPH.

You should also consider what program you got into. I know michigan has a great health policy and management program. I personally did not apply to Yale because of its low ranking. I chose not to go to umich because of the weather, and went to Berkeley b/c it was cheap and in california. I'd choose umich over yale
