Which Organic class would you take?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
It's boring either way it goes, dude. I had them both ways and it didn't really matter to me.

Hey, sometimes with classes that are 1.5 hours long...you are given a little leniency on the time of the exams. In other words, sometimes the profs. will let them run longer...that would be a massive advantage on organic exams.
That in mind, I would go with the 1.5...unless it was going to be a pain to take that section.

I took my o-chem classes two different ways. The first semester was a summer session class, 2 and a quarter hours of lecture four days a week (!), but I had a good teacher so I didn't mind. Second semester (in the fall) I had an hour MWF, which I usually prefer. It makes you think about the material more often and so it gets more embedded, IMO.

Longer exams = harder exams.

go for the mwf schedule. i think those classes are more productive. 1.5 hr blocks aren't as effect as 1 hr blocks since both the prof. gets tired and the students lose their attention spans.

Thanks to everyone who replied. As for leniency in exam times, all Organic exams are pretty much scheduled at night (we have 2 hours to complete).

Dude, you guys got to have exams in class? Almost all of my science classes in college had 2-3 hr. exams at night. I think it's because our classrooms had only 300-400 seats, and they couldn't sit us every other seat. Our exams were always huge! One of my organic classes had 4 exams of 3 hours and 45 minutes each!

hi,

If they are different professors, than decide which prof you will like better. other than that, it's not too different. I'd then look at final exam dates. and then i'd think about lab, and who you might be stuck with for lab partners and such (if you know others taking orgo). and, 1.5 vs 1 hr depends on your style, mostly. Is it nicer for you not to have classes friday, maybe, or does one section block all office hours for another prof.

yeah, if there are exam differences think about that.

you actually HAVE multiple sections? wow.

Sonya

I would first talk to other students to see which professor is better (if there are more than one). Then register for the course with the better professor. In my school, I registered for one section then attended another section because the professor was better (and the exam was the same). I don't know if you can do that at your school though.

Take the MWF. You will find it easier to concentrate and absorb the material if you only hear it 1 hour at a time.

I agreee. Probably MWF because then you could learn the material easier since you don't have to learn as much at a time. Granted you are in class 3 times a week and you probably will study more often but with less material each time

thats what i would do

Take MWF unless you can manage to have no other class on Friday, then take TR and take Friday off completely.
I'm taking the MWF and my roomate TR. We both have the same prof and same testing time so we have pretty much the same material. It does seem, that my class is always head at the end of the unit and before the test, we get alot more review than his class. Of course, that all depends on the prof.

I always take mwf classes rather than TR. I have a short attention span and I can't sit still for more than an hour. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" />

Depends on the time of the day. Take whichever one is scheduled at a more convenient time for you. I don't think MWF or TThu matters either way.
