Hey guys im only asking this because my friend likes to be an ass and won't believe anything i say.

So he says that being an Accountant pays more than being a Pharmacist and takes less to complete (school-wise 4 years vs 6).

So can anyone answer this Q for me ( and him 🙄 ) preferably with some #'s as in Salary or Dollars/ Per Hours .

Thanks you guys,

I'll post this is pharmacy aswell to get more responses 🙂

I think accountants will make a comparable amount. They usually start off at 50k (much higher if you work for a big firm), whereas a pharmacist starts off in the 80-90s. I do know accountants that make the six-figure salaries. Regardless of the numbers, I think a pharmacist will have greater job stability than those in the business sector, and to me that is worth a lot more.

Maybe you can check salary.com for an estimate on both careers. However, I do know 2 accounting majors who were signed to big firms in San Francisco, entry-level salary 75k.

Thx guys 🙂 i knew i was right and also knew that the 2 extra years of school would be worth it , money-wise and job stability
😀 👍

Thanks again, im gonna print this page off lol

accounting sure sounds boring to me. i had one class of that in high school and thought it sucked.

Check my reply in your other thread.
Business guys have potential of earning millions, but a pharmacist salary will always be fixed.

Sounds allright upfront, but when norcal cost of living is factored in, they are making the equivalent of about 40K when compared to the majority of the nation.

A businessman will definitely need pills to stay alive to earn millions of $.(Bird flu,AIDS etc).

I took accounting before, and it was the most boring class ever. I would definitely become a pharmacist than an accountant.

Haha very good point, I left this out just to let him see that businessmen have Tonnes of potential at making big bucks, however it does require a tremendous amount of work.. But if its money your after, and you don't want to hit the roof at 100,000$/year then go accounting.

No im not in it for the money, just to prove to my friend that a Pharmacist will make more than an Accountant right out of School, and some Pharmacists get signing bonuses anywhere between $5k and $20k , you don't see Accountants getting that much 😛

If you really are born in 1989 though, don't expect many signing bonus due to saturation of pharmacists. Its a real numbers thing going on, yes people are retiring from the field, but also keep in mind how many university gunners are trying to get into pharmacy school also.. not only is competition to get a space in the school tough right now, but job outlook in the near future will be tougher.

Here in Vancouver, about 7 years ago we had a HUGE shortage of p harmacists, all over Vancouver, the shortage was completely fixed after 2 years of graduating pharmacists from all over Canada (mainly pharmacists from UBC ofcourse).

Shortage might look promising for jobs now, but I can bet money that in the near future (10 years when you will be graduating with a PharmD.. given you make it that far), there will be a oversaturation of pharmacists all over the states.

You're assuming a typical salary and thus not comparing with a typical accountant salary neither. What about pharmacists who earn their MBAs at the same time (there are 7 students in my class who are getting dual degrees) or work their way up management? What about pharmacists who own their own pharmacy? The earning potential is still great for pharmacists who choose not to stick to just being a hospital staff pharmacist or a chain staff pharmacist.

Also, your predictions about the oversaturation may or may not be true. With Medicare Part D, the aging baby boom population about to retire, who knows if that will be true or not in the U.S.

i have a friend whos only 23 made 160k in a month through real estate, which almost made me change my mind, but real estate is unstable compared to pharmacy and probably not my field of enjoyment.

It is not about the money here...pharmacy and accounting are two completely different careers. Either one will make a decent living wage, you will not be a millionaire nor will you be broke. Choose what you will be the best at and enjoy. Personally, I have a business and do my own books(only 2 hours per week) and although I am excellent at it, I really would not like to do it for 40 hours, as I would end up going crazy.

same here, i see people making alot of money inreal estate. If you become a pharm you can save up alot of that money from working and then start investing in real estate also. With pharm degree you have a job and money to invest in business.
