My undergrad from many moons ago was a psych degree and I took several statistically oriented courses...I know that stats counts as a math class and therefore "counts as a science"...but what about experiemental methods or test theory and construction...both are statistical courses...

While we are on that, has anyone ever tried to have abnormal psych counted or sexual behavior...both courses were biologically and psychologically oriented....

Just curious...

None of the psych courses will probably count toward your science gpa for amcas. The courses should be listed under the biology, physics, chemistry or math department. I was a psych major also and if you took neuroscience under the psych dept then it did not count but if you cross-registered for it under biology, then it counted for a science course. Be careful, if you took stats under the psych dept and not under the math dept then I am not sure if it will count.

no way! are you serious??
I have TONS of Physiological Psych classes, and I was told they would count as Bio. Classes that have obviously Physio names (Drugs and Behavior; Neurspych etc) DO count as Bio requirements, I thought. Then again, I haven't applied yet.

There always seems to be misinformation and no clear-cut answers to this question. I went through this, this summer; I consulted my premed advisor, asked AMCAS "specialists", and re-read their directions. One thing I know for sure is that courses don't need to be listed under one of the Biol, Chem, Physics and Math departments to be listed under BCPM, so Reesie someone misinformed you.

You're given leyway, but don't take advantage of it by including abnormal psych as a biol course (yes you'll cover schizophrenia, but I find it hard to believe any abnormal psych class would dedicate most of the course to the physiology behind the disorders.)

I included:
1.) Descriptive Statistics in Psych under MATH
2.) Statistical Methods in Psych under MATH
3.) Physiological Psych under BIOLOGY

Including abnormal psych, experimental methods, sexual behavior and other psych classes that leaves room for any question would be inapproriate, at least in my opinion.

My AMCAS application was processed and no corrections were made.

jmejia1 gives good advice!

I included psysiological psych as a Biology course.

Check out the help section of AMCAS to get more information also.

Abnormal and sexual behavior I definately don't think would count.

I would think experimental methods and test theory and construction may or may not count towards math depending how much math was included in the course.

Guys..it sucks that psych courses doesn't count as a science courses...I did my undergrad at UC, majoring in science but these courses doesn't count. on the other hand..they do like psych degree..it makes u well rounded i guess!!1

Most of your psych classes will count as science courses on AMCAS. Believe it or not AMCAS actually changed my intro psych class to count as a Bio course. I had it listed as 'other' or something.
