I was curious to know which dental schools have the best facilities? With everyone interviewing at different schools I thought I might be able to get some great feedback!
Also, do you think that the better facilities will make you a better dentist?

I just interviewed at MUSC. Their facilities are a little out of date right now. They are building a brand new clinical facility that should be up and running in 2008. Yet, the older facility definitely produced some pretty good dentists. In fact, I was told that MUSC is well known for producing dentists that can actually practice dentistry after the four years. The dental students at MUSC get lots of clinical exposure, which prepares them greatly for the real world. I am told that other schools do not provide quite as much experience in this area. I think becoming a good dentist relies more heavily on good faculty and your own motivation. Just give me a recliner, flashlight and a pair of pliers....

I hear Case, Boston, and Buffalo have great facilities. Also, UPENN.

Arizona and Colorado, because they are both brand new schools with top of the line equipment.

MUSC?

I've beent o MUSC, not the best facilities, sorry. The school is in need of the new building pretty bad. I do know some great dentists that have graduated from there though!

BU's "Simulation Learning Center" is very, very nice, there is no question about it. Also the new 6th floor of the clinic is very nice. Much of the rest of the clinic, and ESPECIALLY the classrooms leave a LOT to be desired--especially with our tuition.

From what I've seen so far: chalk me down for Arizona.

Its not because I attend this one but I think USC has one of the prettiest facilities, along with UoP.

UNC has pretty nice facilities also. In the pre-clinic each bench has a dummy simulator head and a computer monitor (flat).

The clinics at UNC--including grad clinics (ortho, pedo, etc), which DDS students use are phenomenal. Only a couple years old, great view (you can almost see the DeanDome), feels like a private practice. The remainder of the school is just finishing up a remodel...lucky for those of you who didn't have to live through that.

Arizona without a doubt. Flat screen & touch-screen monitors at every station, wireless keyboards and mice, all digital equipment (charting and radiographs), all equipment 1-2 years old, electric handpieces, Pelton & Crane operatory chairs, an in-house private dental lab for all fixed work, etc.
