Hey all,

Now that we're all beginning the long wait for c/o 2004 secondaries, I'm curious to know which schools are most notorious for doling out pre-secondary rejections (i.e. screening pre-secondary). Mainly, it would be helpful to know the schools I should wait for notification from first before I start looking at their secondaries. I know Stanford is high on this list. Any others?

Thanks,

Deez

will the schools that don't screen contact us as to whether we should start filling out the secondaries?

would u suggest just going to every school's website and seeing what the procedure is? or is my plan to wait and see what happens good enough?

The schools haven't even started to get the applications yet. They will give you instructions on the secondaries, so don't start bugging them yet. There will be time enough for that later!😉

Stanford
U of Chicago

UCSF

The UCs send out an second "primary" application where you have to repeat everything they've already seen on the AMCAS app.

rCubed,
You should go to each individual website and check out the procedure. In my case, I know that I will be contacted either by email or snail mail with instructions about how to access the secondaries if they are on-line, etc. They usually say on the website whether they send out secondaries automatically or if there is pre-secondary screening.

The reason I am advocating individual searches is that you may run across something odd that you need to be prepared for. For example, Stanford "strongly advises" having individual letters rather than just a committee letter. I hadn't been aware of that.
Besides, it doesn't take that long (compared to the amount of time most of us spend on the internet, myself included ), and you'll have peace of mind.

There is a separate thread for this, but the schools you really need to watch out for are the ones that don't screen and don't send you anything, i.e., you need to go to their Web site and fill out the secondary online once you have an AAMC ID. The ones that come to mind immediately are Wash U and Hopkins. It's always a good idea to check the Web site anyway.

actually, did Duke "screen" last year per se? I remember when I got there secondary they said something to the effect of "if your gpa sucks, you might want to reconsider filling this out", but I think as opposed to years past in 2002-2003 they sent it to everyone 😕

besides, that beast of a secondary probably scares off enough applicants in a year 😛

Great, here are five of my 31 schools... 🙄

I'm not the next Nobel winner nor am I Biochem queen with five publications under my belt. I am a nice person with good stats and clinical experience, and as far I know pretty good references as well. I'll be so bummed if I get sliced before I even know what happened. Oh well, here comes a really l o n g year of roller coaster rides

I "believe" that the University of Illinois screens....but I really can't remember at this point!

on my webpage, in the 2nd column schools are marked with
* Screen before sending secondary
** Screen non-residents
***Doesn't have a secondary

I'm pretty sure they screened, although not to the extent that places like Stanford and UNC.

Add EVMS, VCU and Maryland

tacking on USUHS and Pitt. Pitt is also unique in that you can be invited to an interview before even filling out their secondary

So how do you get to do that? Is that for people with uber-high scores or what? If so, what is uber-high?

I'm sure that scores play a role, but I do know that they actually read your entire AMCAS before making the decision, so it's not just a numbers thing.
