So i'm wondering did most of the people that scored extremely high quit going out for 3 months, or did yall still party or if not party go out casually like for drinks or movies or what not.

I mean or did everyone just study like 8-10 hours a day and then chilled at home and went to bed and did the same thing the next day and over and over for 3 months? I mean cause its hard enough studying 8-10 hours a day..

Just wondering if its a bad idea to even go out while studying for the exam?

I am aiming to do really well on this exam and as to see this years scores I need to..

Its very funny you posted this. My bro was like were going to LA tonight its going to be fun, bars, drinks, girls ect... I am in the same boat.

study hard for one week then taking easy one day will be healthy.

My GPA was low so I when I was studying for the DAT I knew this was my only shot to make up for my less than perfect academic history. If you think about the impact the DAT makes to your application and the time you have to put in to it to do well, studying and having no life for 1-2 months is really worth it. Compare that to studying like crazy for the whole semester just to get a 0.10 GPA boost and you get my point.

I decided to basically have no life for almost 2 months, my scores definitely aren't the hottest but certainly a lot of people said they aren't bad. A break every once in a while is a must like Danny suggested. Ultimately I managed to justify my geeky life for those 2 months because I knew that those who weren't doing what I was doing were probably going to fret more during the whole application process than I was. Now I'm gradually reverting back to my old lifestyle and boy does it feel good.

i didn't blow the test out of the water, but i would have driven my self crazy if i studied for 3 months straight.

here was my game plan...

study until i lost intrest and caught my self re-reading material because i didn't even remember what i just read.

i also started with a goal in mind...like "i'm going to get through 2 chapters of gen chem today" or "i want to get through 150 questions in destroyer and understand them"

the key to doing well is not HOW much time you spend studying, but how well that time is used. repetition, repetition, repetition is the bread-maker study tip of all times!!

I lifted EVERY day. Well took like 5 days off in the month I studied (I studied more than this month but it's complicated). You really need to push yourself.
IMO, 5 SERIOUS hours a day is good. I tried to get about 7-8, but I wasn't concentrating so they counted for about 3-5ish...

Anyway...stay fit during your studying or you will regret it. If you lift or do cardio, it refreshes you physically AND mentally.

i agree
im getting a gym membership for summer

but im pretty sure ima have a drink or two during the month...haha

Well it also depends on how much time do you have before the exam. For example, my exam is on May 5th and I started studying Dec 18th. I spend about 4 to 6 hours a day and sometimes take a break like once a week. I think, its working perfectly fine for me. I am done with rewriting and memorizing the content and now I am going to test myself for the next 3 months and revisit my weak points over and over again.

dang you are way ahead of the game! my test is on may 8th and im just going through the kaplan course right now

Don't worry. You still have a lot of time. I feel like I am almost ready to take the exam right now but I want to do really really really really well. I am also taking some classes and so far they are easy. If you aren't taking classes than you are all set.

I disagree...starting that early is counter-productive IMO. He/she will probably burn out soon.

i agree ... burnout city. I would recommend not hitting partyville too much during your preparation ... whats the point. Do things that are going to help you succeed

My DAT is July 1 and I won't be able to start hardcore studying until May 1, so that's 2 months and probably not going to do much more than 5-6 hours a day before going completely crazy. I think a lot of people on here are crazy with the 10 hours a day every day for 3 months crap...I am working on PAT throughout this semester though.

i should focus on the PAT too for this quarter

I dont think you can burnout. You will be better prepared though. Zuma35 studied for 5 months and scored a 23. Most of my friends spent about the same time studying and did pretty well. Its better than trying to memorize everything in a month or so.

no life for 3 months. when i say no life...i mean LITERALLY.

then again, i did have to use the DAT to my advantage...undo some of the previous damage to my gpa from going out too much lol

I went out couple times while studying for the DAT. Of course, I was constantly giving myself the guilt train. But you know what, take your mind off thigns once in a while so you won't go CRAZY!!!

I studied hard (8-10hr days) but while I didn't go out to party/drink during the 2 months I studied, I definitely took my breaks to catch up on tv shows, play xbox, etc. just to get my mind off the material for a bit. It helps to get away from the books for a few hrs a day. gl

study while your drunk, its more fun and entertaining that way. you get more into the material

Lol, this is a good one. If that was the case, then it would also be better to take the test when you were drunk because you will remember things better in the same state of mind (we learned that in psychology).

now i dont mean only going out drinking as in going out..

i mean anything from going to the movies, bowling, dinners....

or did people just watch tv or played games for a bit and then call it a night?

I studied for only a month...maybe 2-3 hrs a day. Cooked dinner, went out for movies, hung out with friends. Ended up with pretty average scores, but I got in and didn't have to retake so that's all that matters to me.

Its ok to take a break. We're not robots, if you feel you have studied hard for the day and accomplished a lot, go ahead and reward yourself!
