Okay, so check this out, I'm pretty proud of myself because I just figured out this quarter, that I literally can get nothing done when I'm studying with 1 or more people together, I must absolutely, positively be alone when I'm studying. I cannot hear another voice or even sit next to another person. Are there others?? come forward plz..

Me. Studying with others really means "let's hang out and talk and joke around in the library." The library actually is a pretty cool place to hang out at my school.

yeah for sure - i can't concentrate at all when people around me are talking.... which is really weird because I usually listen to music while i study and that never bothers me.

yea, I just thought I would bring it up, because I firmly now believe that almost 50 percent of one's success is simply due to his/her setup involved in studying, if your going to set yourself up constantly in groups that accomplish nothing, then nothing will get done, yet if one makes it a point to say, "I can only accomplish this when alone", there it is, stay alone, in the room/library and do it yourself , in the end it 100 percent YOUR time, nobody else's

I definitely have to study alone. The only time studying with other people is beneficial to me is when I have already previously gone over the material in detail and the group session is more of a "let's test each other" kind of thing.

In the geography class I'm taking now, the professor has brought in a lady from the Academic Affairs office twice to speak to us on our study habits. She had us take a couple of tests to determine what kind of students we are and how we should approach our study time. It really helped me identify which methods work for me and which don't.

I'm too easily distracted. I can barely study on my own.

Not only do I study alone, I also study in weird places: basement of a geology building, freshman chemistry lab, physiology lab, alone in the giant econ lecture hall, et cetera. I can't be in one place for too long and I hate the library because it gets loud and there is always someone there to bs with.

This is my situation exactly, haha.

I love finding odd places to study! All I need is a table and I am set. I can't really use those little flip out desks. They're way too small.

It depends who the people are... often when I study with others we are all completely silent until we're ready to discuss and quiz each other or one of us has a question.

Those kind of study buddies are few and far inbetween. Ever single time I try studying with someone else or doing a group study we end up completely side tracked and distracted. It's fun but it's not a good way to get things done.

In other words.. you can't be friends.

👍 Studying with others tends to become pretty inefficient.

Yeah, I pretty much exclusively study in my room.

Lol, this is so me! I'm more effective studying alone. Or if I must study with someone, then usually it has to be just a classmate / acquaintance for me to study effectively. I find that if I study with my close friends, we usually tend to get distracted (more things to talk about, etc..) and end up not getting as much work done.

I am pretty big on studying on my own as well but I have learned that medical school does change that mentality a bit. I found it really hard not to study alone when I was studying anatomy because when you're in the lab and you have so much stuff right in front of you that you have never seen before, you need to follow nerves and arteries and have someone checking you. Otherwise, it's really easy to see something and call it something else for a long time before you are corrected. Also, because of the vast amounts of information, it is almost necessary to talk it out and hear other people talk about it so that it really gets firmly planted in your head. This was quite true for the first term which was about all anatomy, however, this block being so heavy in biochem and microbio, I am finding myself hiding out on my own far more often 😛

Weird. I always prefer studying in groups to studying alone. Yeah, its not always as efficient, but it definitely makes studying less monotonous. I have a hard time staying focusing if I study solo for long periods of time.

I usually study to the sound of laundry. Helps me relax for some reason, air conditionders work too.

you have no idea.. my library 3rd floor is like THE place to find a DATE👍 seriously, NO ONE studies up there and its SO loud. The first time I went there was for a "group study" because that's where all the big groups go and it really pissed me off that people never actually studied there.. it was like "who goes to the library to study?! thats so dumb.."

I gotta say though, all the hot single girls are in the third floor library🙄

*puts both hands in the air*

My experience with study groups is that they usually morph into tutoring sessions or mini-parties.

I'm more productive studying on my own, but there've always been people who wanted to study with me (just friends and because I do well in classes), so I kind of gave up eventually and studied with them...which basically had no effect on how I did on exams. But still...I try to spend at least one day studying on my own for every exam...I'm definitely more focused, concentrated and memorize stuff faster when I'm alone.

I try to avoid those people who turn every studying session into a party...I don't think it'll be an issue in med school though since most people who got in know how hard you have to study to do well.
