    I'm having so many reactions.

    1. The 'it's cheap' line only works when you ignore the fact that insurance covers therapy (the degree and amount is a different issue). Most co-pays aren't $30. Then later they compare this service to 300/hour therapy....

    2. Those mandated reporting and privacy issues....

    3. I doubt the common factors argument extends here to subsume differences between informal support and formal support structures.

    4. Who the hell thinks that encouraging people to avoid therapy is a way to decrease stigma, which is what they argue this addresses

    5. I'd love to see the research supporting this level of training. Research on para-professionals is mixed, at very best.

    6. So many inaccurate statements and straw-men in the whole argument for this 'service'

Well. That gets the blood pressure up. I'm glad it ended with such a good rejection of those premises Basis is to therapy what a cognitive-behavioral workbook is to sessions with a trained professional. One shouldn’t pretend to be the other.)

Just file a board complaint against them in 49 states because they are engaging in the unlicensed practice of “mental health”.

Then they either have to defend their unlicensed practice against the state or say they just offer friendship which means their investors can sue them.

The "Chief Science Officer" is/was the significant other of someone I know fairly well (another psychologist). I wonder how he feels about her terrible life choices?

I don't see how this could possibly go wrong. I felt totally prepared to be a therapist after my first week of grad school.

Good luck to them, I doubt this will be successful.
