I'm concerned about the status of who I ask for a letter of recommendation. My options are a tenured professor whom I don't know all that well though I performed well in his class, an assistant professor who I know well (through research and a class) though I question his ability/enthusiasm in writing one, and a postdoc in my current lab who I know will write a good letter. Does their status factor into the strength of the letter? Do admissions committees even care as long as there's a PhD? I've got some options here, but I just want to pick the best one. Thanks.

I think most schools want at least TWO academic letters of rec, like from your professors.

The research one is probably a good idea.

I chose the biochem professor I TA'ed for, a lab professor in my department and my genetics professor who was like a mentor to me. For others I am doing my volunteer supervisor at the hospital and my current boss.

:D

I would say ask them all, you can't have too many letters to choose from.
