One more quick o-chem question:

If you are adding excess alcohol to a carbonyl ( acetal formation ) is there any stereochemistry that needs to be followed for the reaction ? Can the alcohol group add anywhere on the carbonyl carbon ? Do they always add anti ? or cis ? or something ?
