This campus is gonna be interesting.

According to students rotating in this area, there is no uber service in this area of South Georgia. So I doubt there is much to do or other resources for the school.

Its a satellite school of a branch campus (GAPCOM). I talked to a professor about it and the original idea was the have lectures recorded via our professors. These students would then watch our lectures on tegrity and email our professors if they had any questions. The accrediting body did not allow it so they are looking at other options. They tried to recruit some of our professors to this branch campus but none have agreed to so far except for Dr. Sampson (great teacher he just wanted a bigger position in the PCOM corporation).

Idk how anatomy lab would be handled. Is it going to be online modules or are they bringing in cadavers.

Everything about this schools is no bueno at this time.

That’s interesting to hear, I believe RVU-UT and RVU-CO proposed a similar setup where half of the lectures would be recorded from the Colorado branch and half from the Utah branch— I think that might of worked out for them— but exclusively having lectures from one side may pose problems.

In theory it sounds great. I usually don't go to class when I really need to study and I feel I effectively learned the material.

Tegrity at GAPCOM is inconsistent so if the lecture recording service goes down you have to talk to somebody that went to class. What would the South Georgia MS-1s do if this happened?

Are they gonna accept lower stats since it’s newer? Or will it be super competitive since there’s only 55 seats.... hmmm

I wouldn't worry about that. It will more likely function as overflow for the PCOM-GA waitlist. If you have ever been to Moutrie (as I have, the couple times I stopped at their big gas station on the way back north from Tally) you would appreciate that the only thing they have going for them is their lack of stoplights.

When all you have is a couple gas stations, a Walgreens and a prison, no one really needs to stop. However, speeding is not advised, they certainly do have local police, and despite the wide 4 lane nature of the highway, if I recall correctly the speed limit is only 45 there. Luckily the town is only a couple miles long, so low speeds aren't necessary for too long.

Well do you think they will get a lot of applicants. My Mcat is pretty low, high gpa, and quality ECs/ Lors, from the south region

They will get less than usual, so your chances are certainly higher. Your lizzyM score would be more helpful if you really wanted my advice.

I guess two questions would be really helpful: Is your MCAT under 500, and is your GPA 3.4 or higher?

You should retake the MCAT, you are almost certainly capable of doing better. Have you tried taking a dedicated course?

In the ancient days I improved my MCAT by 5 points just by taking a course rather than studying on my own. I would try that first.

Also if you are URM a 495 is probably sufficient for admission to most of the newer schools. I would honestly try and aim higher for 2 reasons:
    1. The residencys are not expanding as rapidly as the schools, so each year it gets more competative to match.
    2. Especially for someone more than a couple years behind me, I would really want whatever school I went to, to have alumni to help me get a residency if I needed it.

Anything that hasn't graduated a class yet. So under 4 years old:
    VCOM Auburn
    Liberty
The New Mexico School (can't remember the name)
    AR-COM
    AR NYIT COM
    ICOM
Incarnate Word COM in San Antonio

Not quite as new, but still a chance:
    LECOM-Seton Hill
    ACOM
    Campbell etc.
Anything in the South other than Nova and LECOM Bradington.
Wouldn't do William Carey COM tho.

Actually, I will let @Goro tell you, he is the king of this.

Honey you need to do a lot of research into schools and the application process and what scores are competitive where.
They’re absolutely trying to get money from their students. That’s what a lot of DO schools are doing unfortunately.

Oh really I mean I applied kinda late in the cycle. So far I submitted my secondary to NSUCOM, LECOM, WCUCOM, VCOM, PCOM all three campuses, and LMU-DCOM. Recently added like 12 other schools that are around my range like ACOM, MSUCOM, Western, Marian, OU-HCOM, New Mexico, ICOM, other VCOM campuses, Arkansas, Pacific Northwest, WVSOM, and Oklahoma. How do you think I stand in terms of which schools might give me interviews? I write pretty well, have done cancer research, 5 strong letter of rec, etc. All I need is one acceptance right lol

Applying late changes my sentiment. How late? LECOM, WCU, VCOM, LMU, new mexico, ICOM, arkansas, PNWU, WV. should be in play. I applied in november with the same GPA but higher mcat and got an interview everywhere I applied except PCOM and MSU. You should have a chance everywhere but MSU, PCOM, OSU, and OU-HCOM I would say

I submitted my primaries to those additional schools 3 days ago. But thank you, I was honestly a little scared that I wasn't going to make it this cycle. I am a young applicant. I finished my undergrad in 2.5 years so idk if that looks okay because I thought med schools look for older candidates. However I am taking upper level courses, so hopefully its fine.

If you’re young then spend your time building a resume for an MD program. I have classmates that were 20 last year and they have almost zero social skills.

What your saying is you prefer to be forced into primary care, or have your school actively work against you when you decide you like anything else? At 20 you absolutely should go thru 2 cycles of MD before going down the DO path. But that's just an opinion of someone in DO school in rotations, take it for what its worth. I am sure some premed will tell me I am wrong.

Honey, I told you to do some research earlier and I’m doubling down on that. You just called chiropractors a DO. Clearly you know nothing about the profession except your OB was a DO.
Just so you know, OB is typically considered primary care for scholarships and things like that. Not saying it isn’t possible to do any specialty as a DO, it’s just significantly harder.

Dude, he’s pointing out that life is easier with an MD to do what you want. I’m not angry to be a DO, but that path would have been a lot smoother.

Now, pre meds go back to the pre med forums. Let this thread get un-derailed as we are all obviously very excited to discuss a branch campus of a branch campus.
