Well,
I just interviewed at Drew a few days ago and I'm really stoked about this school. I'm not labeled a minority but I would love to go there if they take me. I really love the program.

They said it'll take about 6 weeks before they get back to us!!!

I wanna know earlier !!!

Post your comments on the school if you've interviewed there.

I actually just got an invite from Drew on Saturday. I posted this earlier, but since you seem to know about the school . . . What is the avg GPA, MCAT score? How many of the interviewees get accepted? Btw, I am not a minority either. Thanks!

From what I've heard, it seems like their average GPA is 3.4, and someone told me that my MCAT score of 30 is in their top 25th percentile.

Also, they get 2000 applicants, they send out 600 secondaries, give out 200 interviews, and accept 70 interviewees.

good luck with it.

Six weeks? LOL

Expect much longer. I interviewed on November 21, and didn't hear about my acceptance until 2 weeks ago (February 21).

Yep, it took about 3 months for them to get back to us. UCSB and I interviewed the same day. If you guys get in I'll see you next year as classmates. I'll be there for shizzy.

Hi,

I also interviewed there last week and am so in love with the school. It is so awesome because the students seem happy and the tour guide kept telling us that it has a family atmosphere. I am also totally interested in working in an underserved area. For the two of you who got in, you are so lucky!!!! Do you have any advice on what to do post-interview to show interest?

Thanks!

i have a question for the non-URM's out there who got into Drew. what kind of EC's did you have which demonstrated you willingness to work in an underdeserved area. or was it something else you did?

I guess I could answer that question, since I?m not a urm. I had ECs up the wazzoo. First of all I was the president of the Vietnamese Student Assoc. at UCLA, which is basically a social and cultural club, but we did do some fund raising to send money back to Vietnam to disarm unexploded mines and ordinances. Then I was the ?Budget Review Director,? for UCLA undergraduate student assoc., which is pretty much a treasurer, who allocates student fees to fund student run programs. These funds mostly went to ethnic cultural programs, and community service. I also tutored/mentored disadvantaged, underserved, at risk inner city kids for two years. I was also involved in community health project that went out into immigrant communities, mainly Hispanic and Asian, once a month and did hypertension testing, passing out health pamphlets in Spanish, Chinese, and Vietnams, and screening for minority bone marrow donors. I was a founding member of UCLA?s South East Asian Committee for Learning Education and Retention (SEA CLEAR), which is basically a support program that provides tutoring/counseling for Asian students on academic probation or subject to dismissal. We pretty much helped these students from getting kicked out of school. Oh yeah, I did a year of research in irritable bowel syndrome, and I was an EMT. That?s about it. I pretty much grew up in underserved immigrant communities, so I know the need is great there, and I plan on practicing in such communities. And someone asked about average gpas and mcats, I don?t know about theirs but I?ll tell you mine to give you and idea 3.5 gpa 36N mcat (9V,12P,15B). Hope that helps, good luck and maybe I?ll see you guys in Aug.

Hi everyone. For those who have interviewed at Drew, do you have any advice on preparing for the interview or about the interview day in general? Please post any helpful comments or suggestions here. Thanks. Good luck to everyone and to those who have been accepted to Drew or elsewhere, congratulations! I hope to hear from anyone who has interviewed at Drew soon.

Know why you want to work with Underserved communities. Thats big.

Thanks UCSB Pre-Med1. Can you tell me what the day is like, a rough schedule of the day's events? My interview at Drew is next Saturday and I have not received my interview packet/information yet. Please let me know when you can. Thanks again and congrats on getting into Drew.

Hi UCSB,

Would you mind telling us your EC's and stats and stuff? There seems to be only two of you posting, who have gotten in so far, so any info would be great!

Hi,

I wanted to tell you that the interview day starts a t 9am and you sit in a lounge area. It is good to get there early and sign your name on the interview seat, so you get an earlier interview. Then, you watch a video on the story of Charles Drew. Dr. Miller and Wanda Hall both talk and then the Dean of the school comes in. You watch some more interviews, have brunch, go on one interview with a med student or faculty and then go on a tour of the hospital. At the end of the day, you fill out a form on what you thought of the day. I got there at 8:30 and left at 2pm.

Well jayzway pretty much summed it up. 😀

My stats?

Science GPA: 3.92
Overall GPA: 3.88
MCAT: 31Q

Volunteer at a free medical clinic in SB, officer in my school's pre-medical association, etc.

Hope that helps. Good luck with Drew. 😀

thanks to everyone who posted on this topic, it has ben really helpful and made preparing less stressful! my interview is next saturday (03/22) so please wish me luck. good luck to everyone else.

hey uclamendoza, how long did you have to wait to get a response from Wanda hall regarding your interview, I emailed her last wednesday and nothing yet....there's probably no room in the march 22nd interview date, so I guess I might interview sometime in april. As far as advice (I interviewed there last year and got the waitlist 😕 ) Just be yourself, make sure you know why you want to practice in underserved communitites, how have you shown commitment to the underserved, what inspires you to succeed, why drew? and I that's all I can remember for now. well good luck!

Hi Dr. Don,

I haven't heard anything since I interviewed, but I was wondering how the waitlist works. Do you know how many people get waitlisted and how many get rejected? And also, is the waitlist ranked? Any info is great! Thanks!

dr. don,

i received my postcard for an interview on a saturday and emailed wanda hall that same day. i believe i got an email from her on a tuesday (2 business days) with a list of dates and was confirmed for my march 22nd interview date that same day. So I would say about 2 business or working days for an interview confirmation by email. She may be really busy and is just backlogged with numerous emails from applicants. You'll probably hear from her soon. Good luck with the email and the interview of course. I'll let you know how it turns out for me and share that on SDN. If there's anything else I could help you with, please let me know.

BTW, do you happen to know what time the interview day ends? My girlfriend will be dropping me off and using my car to visit her sister in town. Do you know when I should tell her to come by and pick me up? Please let me know when you can. Thanks again!!!

i second your bump jazyway.....have you interviewed at drew?

I interviewed there two weeks ago and really loved the school! Anyone get in recently?

oh ok jayzway.....any advice or helpful hints for the interview at drew? i am interviewing this saturday.......please let me know when you can and good luck to you in the admissions process.

uclamendoza, since the search function's down, you can check out interviewfeedback on SDN's home page (the old and new)--there are entries on Drew for the past few years.

thanks nefertari.....you have a cool screenname......have a blessed day!!!

No problema! (Thanks--my SN's egyptian-inspired. It's fun here since in real life I could never get away w/ a name like that.)

I remember last month writing a long post on an older thread @ Drew--if the search comes back on before Sat, I'll try to look it up for you. You should be fine making a list of questions from interviewfeedback @ Drew--that's what I did & they didn't ask anything else besides those questions.

If you have to leave earlier, try to sit toward the front. If you don't, then I'd say sit somewhere near the middle so you won't miss the pep talk by Dr. Miller and the Dean and will have plenty of time to relax before interviewing. The people there are wonderful and the interviewees make up a diverse bunch. You should be done by 2:30 or 3, even if you're among the last to interview. Have a great time on Sat!

thanks again nefertari.........you, like your screenname, rock! thanks for the information on drew. I feel ready and just want to get the day done with all that is going on in the world now. by the way, when did you interview from drew and have you heard back yet? i hope it's good news!!!

got the date March 31st, weird huh? it's on a monday...don't they usually interview on saturdays? well is anybody else interviewing that day?

Wanda scheduled my interview for 4/12, but i never got any info packet after that... how long did it take for you guys to get your info pack after scheduling your interview date?

i've posted my stats in the past... they're not good enough to post again. my extracurriculars include volunteering in hospital and free clinic, bioinformatics research, alzheimer's research, vp of community service organization, student run homeless mobile clinic, undergrad science journal, part-time jobs all four years, tutor for bio and chem, also applied under disadvantaged status due to family background but not a urm.

dr. don,

a friend of mine interviewed at drew last year on a monday, although they usually interview on saturdays. it is not uncommon to interview on another day. good luck with your interview.......

chibihamsta,

i got my interview information packet about a week before my interview date......

GOOD LUCK TO YOUR GUYS!
