I was fairly set on neuropsychiatry, but after my experience in a psychiatric youth ward this year, I'm thinking youth psychiatry now. It seems clear there's more potential for treatment when the patient is young.

I'm not saying there's no foreseeable chance I'll change my mind, but I've found psychiatry interesting for years. Anyone else pretty much set on their path?

Geriatrics--old people crack me up.

definitely a surgeon.

Emergency Medicine, maybe with a focus on disaster medicine or EMS.

Doctor of love. Oh, baby.
If that doesn't pan out: psychiatry (I must find people crazier than me, and maybe score some crack from the substance abusers) or nephrology.

IM with a fellowship in cards

I don't know yet 🙁 , it keeps changing from dermatology to neurology to psychiatry to internal medicine to whatever. I still want to be part of this thread 🙂

I'm leaning towards family medicine even though the state of family medicine isn't so good right now. If I specialized, I would probably go with dermatology.

i know what i'm interested in now, but that'll probably change, so i don't want to say i'm picking anything

right now i'm interested in ped onc, ent, reconstructive plastic surgery and psychiatry

but i figure something anything, will get my interest and change my mind 🙂
althought it WON"T be anything to do with liposuction. man, that sucking noise and the fat in the tube is the only thing that truly grosses me out 🙂

GAS for now. Was Neuropath...but now GAS.

I want to do pediatric orthopaedics

I work in a childrens hospital right now and have the pleasure of working with children everyday. I think it will be very rewarding to help the very young lead a better life.

yup. I'm almost 90% sure about what I want.

Radiation Oncology! =d

definitely emergency med
but let it be known that i'm also a staunch supporter of ER 😉

I'm thinking Emergency Medicine. People keep telling me I should do pediatrics though. I do love kids, but it's the dealing with the parents part that makes it difficult. I'm also randomly interested in Anesthesiology.

i don't really know what fields i would want, just some very vague ideas of what i like

does anyone here know a good resource where i can read up on all the fields/types of docs, etc?

1. Internal is my dream pick, although much specialty would possibly take too long and I'll be 36 or so when I enter med school.
2. Pathology... I have a pathologist type of personality (a little eccentric)
3. EM

Just don't stick me in:
😱 😱 😱 😱 Psychiatry. 😱 😱 😱 😱

I'm terribly fascinated by surgery. But I'm kind of absent minded and at the rate at which I lose my keys, I'm afraid they'd turn up on a patient's xray

Can someone explain to me what exactly a hospitalist is? What do they do? What's the training? As managed care becomes more prevalent, what's the future of hospitalists? etc? I love me some explanation about etc.
Thanks!

For me, definitely Emergency Medicine!!!

(I've also ruled out Pulmonology from my experiences working in the ICU...)

1.pulmonary critical care
2.hemonc
3.radonc-specialize in ped, leu/lym, and neuro

this is how I understand it based on the 2 hospitals where I have worked/volunteered. The hospitalist (or a team of them) care for patients that either
a.) don't have insurance and/or a primary care physician or
b.) whose PCPs have made contracts with the hospitalists so they don't have admit their own patients in the middle of the night (or day, whatever). Sometimes the PCPs will take over after the inital admission or the team will continue to care for the patient throughout the course of their hospital stay.

Most of the hospitalists I have met are trained in Internal Medicine and have their own practices as well. They will work as a hospitalist for a few shifts a week, specific hours.

Ugh, parents.

what is the website of this again??i believe its a girl who wrote this comic book...

1. EM.
2. Neuro-surg.
3. Psychiatry.

Throw in pediatrics, since that's floating around in my head. Overall, I'll find out by 3rd year.

99.999% neurosurgery. 0.001% something else, because I've learned that nothing is ever certain. ever.

Neurosurgery, tambien. Along the same lines, if you're too certain, chances are something else will happen to change your mind.

Not many are interested in Dermatology huh?

surgery surgery surgery surgery.100% sure. but i might change my mind sometime later..

Some type of pediatrics. I know I want to do academic medicine, but as far as what subspecialty I don't have a clue. Part will depend on where I go to school...

Family medicine. Treating the entire patient and their family is so appealing to me. And my family physician is my here. 😍

1.Pediatrics (Neonatology?) I really would love to work with kids...
2.Pathology (Thinking maybe clinical path...)

Who knows though, it changes every few months... 🙂

1) Pulm./CC
2) Cards
3) EM

I will honestly be shocked if I don't end up in critical care via some route or another. It's just the part of medicine that I respond to most strongly, intellectually and emotionally.

1. Neurology or Neurosurg
1. Ortho
3. Radiology
4. Gas...but mostly as a step into pain medicine.

I ranked mine USnews style 😛 I'm really into physiology and stuff so I find bones and neurons very appealing...I'm also very very visual/spatially oriented so I think I'de be good at rads

Anesthesiology sounds really interesting to me....

I love how the two neuro freaks (mean that in the *best* way) started the twin threads on specialties, and people are equally responding to both (one by post, the other by poll). 🙂

1) OB (trying to pretend gyn doesn't exist) !! - maternal fetal medicine in high risk pregnancy, perineonatal care
2) neonatology
3) surgery

what I'll definately NOT do

1) radiology
2) dermatology
