Am I missing something with this data? It says Ophthalmologists make 769k (page 26) which is the most of any specialty by far. Most of the other high paying specialties are the same as the high paying specialties in the US.

First, you need to convert Canadian dollars into U.S. dollars. A Canadian dollar has been worth about 75% of the U.S. dollar over the past five years. As far as ophthalmologists go, there's probably a bigger shortage of ophthalmology residency slots in Canada than there is in the U.S.

Ophthalmology potential is even higher in American dollars especially if you have a niche, Subspecialty or in high demand area..
Not long time ago, Canadian doctors were flocking to US for better finances.., now it’s the other way around after the pendulum of socialized medicine swung the other way.. where people can’t wait for months on limited quotas of procedures in government clinics and are seeking services in the private practices in the afternoon where they pay top $$ for highly desirable elective services like Ophthalmology!!

Here in US, the pressure is still on all surgical specialties with further cuts in reimbursements and more regulatory burdens to make it more desirable to go in primary care and we are still far away from the mass of American medicine pendulum to reach its null point to swing back again..!!
