Why are pathology organizations fragmented?

why are pathologists fragmented? the main ones are ASCP vs CAP....does anyone know how it ended up this way? I think this is detrimental to the future of pathology. we should be united in one organization like other specialties.

Probably because AP and CP are actually two different specialties
