I talked about how I'm from Kentucky and my sporadic use of "y'all" and experience as a farmhand for the Keck diversity essay. I'm not kidding. Hopefully they won't take that for the subtle jab that it was. We're trying to save lives, not build a f*cking rainbow.
This is basically what I told my younger brother when he began dressing pseudogothic/punk in high school, listening to Marilyn Manson, etc. He proclaimed "I just want to be different that's all!" 3-4 of his friends were over at the time, all dressed similarly; 2 had jobs at Hot Topix and he was applying there as well.
I replied "don't you mean you want to be different just like your friends? So you can all be different together?"
Typically, they had no idea I was making fun of them.
