I have a friend who is an insurance lawyer. He is usually very supportive of my goals. But he kept pressing me as to why I wanted to be doctor. Instead of say a real estate agent. First no to sales as a permenent career. Yes I realize that we have to sell ourselves as doctors to increase patient load.
My thoughts is that it is a feild that combines the physcical with the psychological( I am looking at family practice) and yet provides an income that supports a family. Geez as a social worker there is no way you can support a family. From the info I have read from AmAsC. (think I got the letters right, but probably not) these are acceptable reasons.
My question is what are your reasons for traversing the long hard road towards becoming a doctor.
🙂

For me, it is either getting an MD, MD/PhD, or PhD really because I want to work in biomedical science. I like the MD more because you do have the option of research and you get to meet the very people you are helping.

I wouldnt read much into what an insurance lawyer has to say about medicine. They only see the worst aspects of it (malpractice). They miss all the good stuff.

Really find out for yourself what the "good" and "bad" aspects of medicine are....ask a lot of doctors who've been through it and get straight answers with no fluff or suger-coating. Then ask yourself if the good stuff you get is worth all the bad stuff you'll experience. If you can honestly say yes it is, then go for it.
