A perfect balance of surgery and clinic, technology-oriented field, and I think eyeballs are cool!

Please share here what made you choose to become an ophthalmologist.

Unique surgery but with opportunities to do procedures that extend into other disciplines (the path I chose, happily); a mix of clinic and surgery without too much of either; I liked the anatomy and physiology and the scope of practice;
limited hospital practice, which I am grateful for; I really prefer not to be in the hospital, except to do surgery.
