Why do people pay back student loans besides the moral reasons to do so?

from my understanding, the Feds do not garnish your wages, or take any property. And when you die the burden of federal student loans does not pass on to children or anybody else, so I honestly don't understand why more people don't default.

Being delinquent on student loans puts you in a pinch for a lot of reasons. . . .

And they have the right and ability to garnish your wages by just sending a letter (aka without suing you). You'd be dumb to try and screw with the federal government. You'll lose.
