Why does ethanol hypoglycemia inhibit gluconeogenesis?

What exactly is the physiological process which blocks gluconeogensis? Is it because oxaloacetate is converted to malate by the excess NADH produced by the added alcohol to the body, and hence we are depleting the oxaloacetate available for gluconeogenesis?

Also, build up of NADH prevents the conversion of glutamate to alpha-ketoglutarate by glutamate dehydrogenase.

Alpha-ketoglutarate + Alanine --> Glutamate + Pyruvate, by alanine aminotransferase

No alpha-ketoglutarate means less pyruvate is available for GNG
