why does it take so long?

I have two questions:
1) What is the shortest amount of time it has taken anyone to here from Maryland?
2) What does it mean if you have heard nothing from a school in months? I have gotten three interviews, one rejection, and have heard not one word from my other six schools! These are schools that are, in large part, not as good as the ones I have been interviewed at.

If it makes you feel any better, I applied to 20 schools, have gotten 5 rejections, 1 interview, and waiting to hear back from 14 schools. My application was complete back in late August. I'm just as confused. Each time I call the schools, they say my application is under review and that's all the info they can provide me.
