Please don't move this from Pre-Allo..

I will tell you why?

Its because of the Sticky: & the Announcement threads that are automatically on top of all other threads.

It kind of diminishes the excitement or the adrenaline rush one might get, watching a thread go on top of all the other ~ 1 billion some threads.

So, Lee or whoever, If you could take out those (Sticky) things and put it at the bottom of the page, it would bring back the excitement of the old days and may make me and many others to post more.

Just a thought.

Honestly, I think that its gotten quite boring here because the interview season has not started to pick up. We don't have those "I got in!" threads, "Waitlist" threads, and those threads that discuss interview experiences and post-interview anxiety. Those were the days when I was the most hooked.

Idon't know. I was here this time last year and it was more interesting...maybe it was because I was applying last year and I am not applying this year.

Well, I'm applying this year for the second time and it really seems to lack the luster of last year. Maybe because I feel more comfortable this time around, or maybe because I found other ways to kill time, but I would say that it is definetly a little less exciting around these parts.

I have thought the same thing. People are much more serious, and also much less serious, this year. No Scooby, Papa Smurf, A. Caveman or WatchaMaCallit to perk things up. And discussions tend to be shorter and less interesting -- although the recent AA debate has livened things up (Thanks, Tein ;) ). There's not as much of a feeling of community. I think things are looking up, though. :)

SMW, off topic, but have you decided what you are doing this year? In terms of applying to your state school and stuff?
I was interested in your sitch and I didn't know if I missed the outcome. :)

I'm in the midst of contacting the powers-that-be about it.

I do miss the old days w/ DoctoraFoxy, and the rest of the crew. Its not exciting now a days. Oh well back to studying.

hmmm...well how can we spice it up a little? I'm all about excitement!

So SMW, which med school are you planning on going to? And out of curiousity, what is your stats?

I know one way to spice things up a little which is to send nude pictures of ourselves to each other. How about that?
Just brainstorming.;)

great idea! You start... ;)

Only chicks please!

I've posted this a lot, so apologies to those who're tired of hearing it.

I've been accepted, but deferred for a year, at Columbia. I was waitlisted, but did not get in off the waitlist at my state school (UW, Seattle, through the WWAMI program, because Alaska does not have a med school). I'm trying, due to financial considerations, to find out whether it would be all right to reapply to UW. My stats are 3.5/30M. Obviously stats are not everything.

definetly, only chicks pics can be sent online. I think that we should make a video, "Wild and Crazy Pre-Med Students" or when "Pre Meds Go Wild" Pass the vodka:D

Dang, you got great stats and congratulations on the acceptance to medical school. Columbia is a great school. can you also put in a word for me next year if you go.;)

If this is a peak of your annoyance, perhaps you should visit the Everyone and the Lounge for more excitement :).

Announcements are made to be seen. That's best done at the top of the page eh? not the bottom, because I know I personally don't always scroll to the bottom of the page. I don't think having announcements at the top of the page is really contributing to the boredom of SDN :). There's a time and place for everything. Althought there is more moderator and admin control it seems, you also have to remember that these are public forums that anyone and their mother could walk on and it's our job to make sure things are kept appropriate. There are certain rules that SDN has to adhere to, and although that might make SDN less "fun," if you want sillyness and the like visit The Lounge. Pre-Allo is for exchange of information, not bashing. Everything happens in waves. If you think it's boring now, it'll perk up soon

How about this to spice things up?

Start a thread where everyone attaches a picture of themselves--and not of someone else or some cartoon.

Then you could always come back to that thread and reference what a person looks like. It says you can attach a file at the bottom here....Or does anyone have a better, faster way of doing this other than creating the profile with your picture on that?

Sounds like a novel approach, but this place needs to be spiced up with new content. The only kinds of pics that would excite me are porn pics. How bout some Jenna Jameson and Kobe Tai. Maybe we could start a thread on porn! :D

I do think that this place has been overrun with newbies that tend to just ask simple, sometimes even stupid questions. What we need is for people to spend more time with the topics they bring up and the stuff that they write. I think I've seen more one sentence responses on these boards now than on any other boards that I visit on a regular basis. Not that short responses are bad, but sometimes they could use some expanding upon so that they don't seem so bland, especially when more of an answer is needed.

But why do you have to have "Sticky: SDN Forum Rules", towering over everything. It could very well be STICKED on the bottom of the first page. If it is intended towards newbie's then, they will be going over pretty much everything and they will definetly see it since it will be on the first page.

Its totally a blow for a person who does know the rules having to put up with "Sticky: SDN Forum Rules", TOWERING ALL OVER YOU..

I kind of have to agree. And it's good that THE ANSWER TO ALL YOUR FORUM PROBLEMS is gone, because it was definitely not the answer for me.

is it me or has sdn's layout changed to the old orangish color? i've tried changing the settings but its still the orange text, etc.

Yeah, I was hoping it wasn't just me. What's with the new colors? It's odd, yo...

I was trying to adjust the color settings on IE, thought I screwed something up. Silly me.

I've been reading about everyone talking about the good old days and then I relized that I have been on here longer than anyone else that I have seen. Look at my date! I guess I don't post much. You all should have been here back then, 15,000 less members! Back than people would do a little research before they posted a question they could have looked up themselves. I think it was a little more fun then. All those members are gone now.
:(

I think that it really comes down to the fact it is early in the application cycle for 2003 and we are all extremely anxious about getting in this year. I remember going here to SDN back in January when I first found out about this site. It was amazing to me. I learned so much about applying that I wish I knew before January. But it seems like now, at this point where the majority is just waiting to hear something, nothing of substance is being brought up, just the same old questions about applying, from LOR's to pictures. The same topics are being raised again and again. Its all still informative but very mundane. But I suppose that is what is to be expected this time of year. I expect these forums to be bursting with enthusiasm once November rolls around.

Now's the time when Aug mcaters like myself are PANICKING  and pulling a few all-nighters here & there to catch up on 2ndaries before scores come out in 2 weeks!!!! Maybe that's y it's been bit quiet lately. Also, the sdn server seems to go down @ midday.

I do agree with all of ya, though. Seems like there are many posting questions that can be answered simply by checking out schools websites or doing a thread search.

It seems very early still in the cycle, and I imagine that more interesting personalities will log on once all the 2ndaries are done & nothing else to do but WAIT! Plenty of time for bonding & love . . . .

SMW,

Yup, we received the online score report notice this week! AAMC is more automated this year, but they're pimping this service for $15. They said scores will be online 50 days from Aug 17--that's @ 2 weeks. In the MCAT forum people were thinking @ Oct. 4.

For the April mcat, I boycotted this online thing--holding our scores hostage for $$$. But might have to succumb to it this time!!! I spit on AAMC for doing this!!!! By making it available online for free, they could save $$ on postage & labor stuffing envelopes.

you guys, i'm so scared about these scores. I took the mcat once before, and if i did worse--there's no way i'm getting into med school--and i panicked on the PS section :(. anyway, as soon as i got the online password deal, i threw it away in the garbage so i wouldn't be tempted. let me tell u though, it's going to be so hard not to know while all the SDNers get their scores online! AHHHH!

and how the heck are AMCAS and AAMC non-profit. They must be giving out some pretty HIGH salaries from all the dough they're raking in! Cheapos charge for everything! Great. Now they'll trace this post and lower my score a few points for revenge. :( sigh....such is life

You said it, athena! I nominate that for "Quote of the Day"!!!

Nefertiti, when do the scores get mailed out if you didn't pay for the on-line deal?

athena, you're going to be fine (although I know it's nervewracking, waiting -- I don't know how you can stand knowing that you could be getting your score on-line but aren't). You did fine the first time and didn't really even need to retake. Are your secondaries all done and files all complete? I'm betting you'll have tons of interviews as soon as the schools have your scores. :)

oh gosh, i finally found a computer where I can actually post a message on SDN. I think that is why there are less people posting. I've tried posting on SDN on 3 different computers before this one and it kept making me log in over and over... (and this is after I tried following the faqs)... sigh.

SMW,

Their letter says, "We will post scores . . . on or about the same day we begin mailing the paper score reports--approx 50 days after the test." So, mailed scores will reach us @ mid Oct.

If they're going to charge us for online scores, I wish they would be gracious enough to make them available earlier than 10 days before! AAMC is so cheesy!! Sorry @ my whining. I'm disgusted w/ their money-making schemes at the expense of poor applicants!

Oops! Sorry, Nefertari, I got your name wrong!

No worries! Actually, I also like Nefertiti (the queen of Akhenaten), but someone already registered under that name.

I was the queen of Ramses II in a previous lifetime. I guess in this one, I'm poor & applying to med school!! ;)

Nefertari, I'm panacking too about the August MCAT score. I had a 28 last August and I better have broken 30. Last week, I must have had 3 sleepless nights just thinking about my score. I keep reliving sections of the exam and imagining the worst has happened, like I bubbled in the wrong answers, or the proctors ate my exam answer sheets. (Believe it or not, my stupid idiotic proctors were eating their breakfast during the VR section, and wouldn't you know it, they were both extremely obese ladies.)

WOW... Stickys are GONE...

It's because the previous year's class was a lot cooler.

I also think (among other reasons) that due to the fact that they separated the MCAT DISCUSSION into it's own little area...so this place isn't as packed as it once was.

When SDN did their "re-vamping", I realized I could not delete all my cookies from my computer.

I thought I could NEVER post again+pissed+

Then I realized (after a few months)--> I can just log in everytime if I want to post!!

However, I would like to consider myself as part of the "new generation" of SDNers!!!!

welcome back.

Yeah...I hope to have over a 100 posts one day..........

Stick around, you'll get there. I didn't even realize when I hit the 1000 mark. I was at 700 around august.

SG,

 I also had a lady proctor who was grossly obese, who kept calling "Time's up" when there were 5 min left (people were ready to tackle her)!!! Must be a conspiracy!!

Hey, 28 is not bad--that's in the safe zone if you had an even distribution. Mine was 24, but if it had been 28, I wouldn't have retaken. In April, I just felt like **** when I ended up getting the same score as last year, and had to retake for the 3rd time in Aug!! MCAT's been such torture since I feel pretty good @ my overall application. Btw, I wish they hadn't separated the mcat discussion since it's dead over there & people mainly ask trivial technical questions.
